I see we crossed from the "We are getting all the players we want!" phase to the "Where's the playing time for all these players? (Insert name) will be looking to transfer out!" phase.

Classic. I think the next phase is "Recruiting is fluid." Do I have that right?

;)
Followed by "he didn't really fit our system anyway." In fact, some posters have already jumped to that one.

I will first start by clarifying that I am in no way a talent expert or a coach, just an experienced arm chair know it all.

IMHO Hawkins has a lot of talent, he can handle the ball very well, passes better than average and certainly has shown glimpses of being a decent shooter, however that being said he seems to over think everything. His inability to feed Kofi is infuriating. He panics every time he tries to drive the lane as in the NW game Sunday. He seems to have that fear if he screws up he will be benched look so he hesitates then passes.

Wish he could.just get out of his own way. We all saw what he is capable of vs Rutgers earlier.
That's the tough thing. He plays tentative because he knows he will be benched with some of the terrible mistakes he has been making, which it turn makes him make terrible mistakes that get him benched.

Is there any chance Hawkins could transition to a 5?
Certainly not in the Kofi style but maybe in the Baylor style. Just tough to see him defensively against Dickinson or Edey types. OSU has been pretty successful with smaller centers but with BBV type not Hawk type.

Might surprise some of you but don't be shocked if Ty starts next year....

With no additional roster changes (besides Kofi leaving), I’d see a top 8/9 of:

1 - Belo
2 - Ty
3 - RJ
4 - Grandy
5 - Danj

Bench
1. Hawkins
2. Goode
3. Epps/Harris (whoever coach trusts more after practices)
4. Split of Payne/BBV

Chances for player to slide out of a major role would be grandy IMO only if just by being outperformed by someone more naturally skilled really growing and excelling, which would be a good problem to have.

Would Kofi come back another year? If so, next years team has some serious potential.

Hawkins has great leaps, great size and excellent ball handling skills. He needs to develop his offensive game to either drive to the hoop or catch and shoot the three. I think he could replace Grandison at the 4 next year but he has to provide more offensive and cutout the ticky tack fouls.

Maybe he could develop the high low post game with Dain next year.
Speaking of Dain, is he now practicing with the team? If so, any reports? Any 'elite' comments from BU?

Podz?? Ty is not a guard...
He's listed mostly everywhere as a PF. He's going to play at the 3 or 4
Also, I really doubt Grandison is coming back, he's turning 24 in 2 months and will be 25 still in college.

Interesting. I’d be open for him to play the 1-4, so hard to list as just a guard, you’re right. But his D, rebounding, and effort are going to find a place on the floor somewhere with Belo and RJ it seems like.

I’d like nothing more than Podz to be the breakout star of them all!

Don't be surprised to see Ty bringing the ball up the court...Underrated ball handler. Also big time transfer guard option on the table right now as well.

I know I’ve seen discussion on David Jones from DePaul, and I did like him as a prospect and would be happy if we could get him. But Freeman-Liberty is DePaul’s leading scorer at 20+ per game. Any interest there? If I am understanding the covid rules correctly he could have a 5th year of eligibility if he wanted it, correct?

Well if he gets social security before Jalen Coleman Lands, he may see no sense in playing ball anymore.

Does this potential transfer have any ties to the Illini (be it related to a former player, recruited previously by this staff, plays in the B1G, ...)?

would this big time guard also be the one mentioned by @LvilleILL? If not, we are going to have guards everywhere....I hope coach can count....

I agree. He's a 3/4 with really good handles. The thing is, at this point, he hasn't shown scoring ability beyond mid-range (at best). So he's probably not going to be a true guard any time soon. But we'll list him as a Guard if he wants, since that seems to be our policy.

One of my favorite Self quotes - "We want three guys on the floor with point guard handles as often as possible."
