Athletically? Yeah. Hoops skills are far better than Payne's though.sounds like Omar Payne

My guess...everyone is saving their A game for L.A.D.My favorite part of Loyalty: scrolling aggressively through multiple pages of irrelevance
very disappointingPretty universal from insiders. Skipped team meeting. Needs a fresh start. More/better options coming in.
Or a quick read of 1350 posts will give all the details.
I don’t think there’s a rhyme or reason to academic rankings. Even as a non-alum fan, I am somewhat proud of the U of I’s academic reputation, but it’s fallen significantly in rankings in the last couple years even as massive renovations and expansions have happened. It could also make the school appealing to prospective students who see people who talk and look like them representing the school. I seriously doubt it moves the needle on overall academic reputation.
I agree with you. At first I was nervous of the idea. I now think if he comes back, he will press way to hard to be the “ the guy” and try to hard prove something . When belo presses to much, it affects his decision making on the court. A fresh start might be the best thing mentally for him and the team. A lot of point guards can drive to the hoop, dish, or kick the ball out. Players can get the same goal accomplished in different ways. May not be as magical looking as belo, but the same result. I won’t be crushed if he leaves, but I’d also be happy if he stays. He’s got so much potential , but so do a lot of players. It’s also nice that we can trust this staff with recognizing and getting good talent. Most I’m sure will disagree with this, but I think we will be completely fine losing Belo. Wish him the best, but we have bigger, more versatile guards coming in that can keep defenses honest shooting from the perimeter.
The portal is different, stressful & exciting all at the same time. Now all teams can try to be blue bloods without cheating.Imagine in 2012 being told in ten years how rosters would turn over ever year, it’s crazy how much the last decade has changed college basketball.
Oh and also it’s not just Kentucky and Kansas paying players now.
Need a veteran leader...Goode could be that guy, but ideally one of the starters, maybe CH if AC is not back.I love Underwood...I think he is the truth...and I will not shed a single tear to see any of our players leave outside of Podz, Goode, and Melendez.
I love our freshmen....I think they are good players and will mature into great players.
This team needs an entirely new feel and dynamic to it.
If Belo, Kofi, Hawk, and Grandy hit the road...then so be it.
I want fresh blood for this team. Jayden Epps...Dog...Ty Rodgers...Dog. Sencire (best player to ever come out of SVSM) Harris...DOG.
I hope the coaching staff hits the portal and brings in some athletic, skilled wings to complement our sophomores and incoming freshmen.
Out with the old, in with the new. The sun rises on a new Illinois empire. I will bask in it.
I think my favorite part is he played with absolutely zero fear against Kofi. I'm guessing BU liked that part too.Plum wasn’t on any top 100 lists either.
6’9, bouncy, can rebound, block shots and looks like he can shoot. Maybe not a star but a really nice player and would be a nice fit. Not worried about the rankings.
UofI also now accepts most dual credits that a student earns in high school. So far I have two graduates and one current child attending. All three entered UofI their first year after high school with around 30 credits. Cleared most gen ed requirements.I think this has gotten better over the years. Last I knew Illinois was accepting many gen eds from our local community college. When I was a a kid that was unheard of. When it comes to classes within a major it’s probably a whole different story.
Lol...NIU trying to compare their curriculum against Illinois.Yes, I can see that also. The thing that got me was when comparing the syllabus from a UIUC course with the equivalent at NIU, they were virtually identical. When this was pointed out to NIU, the response was that they wanted her to "experience the way they taught it". Of course, that may have just been a smoke screen to get the additional tuition $$$.
It rounds to 10?ESPN shows 6.6 ppg.
I almost applied to ND because I (dodges rotten fruit) was a fan of their football team.Didn’t EJ Liddell say part of the reason he chose OSU was because he was always a big fan of their football team?
Folks have to keep in mind that these are teenagers making these decisions as well… there are any number of factors that can go into that decision, that a fully formed adult would never consider.
Dual credits as in AP classes, or are they something different?UofI also now accepts most dual credits that a student earns in high school. So far I have two graduates and one current child attending. All three entered UofI their first year after high school with around 30 credits. Cleared most gen ed requirements.
Depending on the number of significant digits, yes.It rounds to 10?
BU would approve of your use of ELITE…..I don’t think there’s a rhyme or reason to academic rankings. Even as a non-alum fan, I am somewhat proud of the U of I’s academic reputation, but it’s fallen significantly in rankings in the last couple years even as massive renovations and expansions have happened.
Again, I’m biased as a non-alum, but most “common folk” differentiate colleges into a couple tiers:
1. Truly Elite (Harvard, Yale)
2. Almost as Elite (Northwestern, Stanford)
3. Elite But Accessible (Virginia, Cal-Berkeley)
4. Elite For Being Public (Illinois, Wisconsin, UNC)
5. The Rest
Illinois is in no danger of literally EVER leaving that fourth category, and basketball players are a drop in the bucket.
I feel like Brad and I throwing around “elite” over some steak and booze would be amazing.BU would approve of your use of ELITE…..
Wow.. impressive off spring!UofI also now accepts most dual credits that a student earns in high school. So far I have two graduates and one current child attending. All three entered UofI their first year after high school with around 30 credits. Cleared most gen ed requirements.

Amazing amazing.I feel like Brad and I throwing around “elite” over some steak and booze would be amazing.
I too want to see a fully healthy Belo in an Illinois uniform next year. One can think this while having confidence in other returning players, incoming recruits, and optimism about incoming players from the portal that the team won’t nosedive without him. A lot of talent remains along with a great coaching staff, the Illini will be fine.DDisappointing how fast some give up on an ultra talented kid who just went through a traumatic year. I want to see a totally healthy AC...and not in another uniform.
