It was never so obvious how much we missed Ayo and his skill set until those last 10-12 games of the season.
(I'd have to say we were successfully 2-dimensional for most of the season, but then the 3-point shooting abandoned us and we became essentially 1-demensional down the stretch. Very easy to defend by smart coaches.)
First 2/3 of the season:
Inside game: 10
3-pt shooting: 9
Slashing/finishing: 0
Last 1/3 of the season:
Inside game: 10
3-pt shooting: 4
Slashing/finishing: 0
Ayo was also tremendous in transition. We didn't even try to get out on the break this season.

We really missed Ayo's rebounding, too. Rebounding numbers and margin weren't what they were in 20-21.
Rebounds and his passing. Nobody was able to put up the assist numbers he did. Demonstrates the lack of flow we had all year

Really hard to argue this new staff isn’t better than the old one, at least in recruiting. Of course the foundation they laid has made the new guys jobs easier but it still requires finishing.

Just for reference, IF (when?) Illinois adds Skyy Clark, the updated "Team Score" would be 65.75 moving Illinois up from #16 class to #8 in the 2022 team rankings.
Also, according to 247, Illinois current rankings of "All Time Commits" has Jereme Richmond at #1 as a 4* with a composite score of 0.989. Skyy Clark would be Illinois best recruit in the last 20 years by this metric and first true 5* according to 247.
Finally, this would be Illinois' first time since 2011 finishing with a team score of over 65, but that class was more due to volume than actual difference makers (no offense to Mychael Henry, Mike Shaw, Devin Langford, or Ibby Djimde).
BUT OF COURSE, I'm putting the cart before the horse, so ignore everything I just wrote.
