No worries at all, I understand that constant speculation being overdone. As I said, it was just a thought I had looking from the outside, and on Payne specifically, I definitely think his length, shot blocking and defensive upside will be valuble, especially if Kofi leaves.

Aside from the speculation part...I do really feel like this upcoming group is more of group Brad envisions. You are gonna have a ton of long, athletic guards at 6'6" - 6'7". We could be terrific on defense with being able to switch or lock down man to man with that size on the wings. Rodgers, RJ, Goode, Hawk, Podz and/or transfer wing gives us a ton of flexibility.

For what it's worth, this specific kid was already an influencer on social media before committing to Duke. Has over 1M followers on TikTok or something crazy like that. I'm sure that committing to Duke helped gain some followers, but think there are also other factors to take into account.

If he does not have a great season next year I suspect he is out. Maybe he can pull a Cuanzo and hire Skyy Clark's father or HS coach as an assistant.

I think Dennis Gates will be able to re-recruit the Mizzou players entering the portal. He may become a thorn in our side as a recruiter with Chicago roots. However I remember those Whitney Young teams with Quinn Richardson Cordell Henry Najeeb Echols matching up in ISHA playoffs with Corey Magguette Fenwick, Lucas Johnson Maine West and Joey Range Galesburg.

I am not one of the insiders, but I am friends with 2 former Illini players and someone close to women’s staff. Most former players stay somewhat close to the program. They have some access to Brad and occasionally “hear things”. They have kids that play basketball and have a circle of friends who have played, coached, and referee in HS and college. They also travel to attend regional/national HS tournaments. The circle gets pretty small once you get to this level of engagement. They get to know the buzz the same way a Microsoft employee knows the buzz in the tech industry. Also, parents love to talk about their kids.

I've got a little device set up in the mens restroom at Ubben. You have to sit through a lot of $h !t, but occasionally you get a nugget.
