It’s way past go time….TSJ was with some players in Chicago last night.
I’m in downtown Chicago now with my family. I’ll go stealth mode and let you know if I run into him at the American Girl store or the Field Museum. YOU NEVER KNOW!

Adam Miller left Illinois because he wasn't getting the spotlight there due to Ayo and Kofi and it was looking the same way for the next year with Curbelo taking the lead. Whether it was his or his parents or both their decision we don't know. If he comes back, sounds like he is, I hope he and his camp have a better perspective this time around.

Yeah that’s not true for Adam. Maybe some of his family members felt that way though.

Don't know about Trent. Thought we were talking about Andre?

We do know about the injuries - covid, concussion(s), lingering ailments from both, conditioning.

We don't really know much of anything about any mental/emotional damage via social media. Just a bunch of speculation and narrative-building.
Yeah, totally unfounded speculation. 🙄
Keep in mind that that is our 5th year undisputed leader of the team who felt he had to say something to the fanbase in defense of his teammates (and specifically Andre in the first one from last fall).
But

I've been fully on board for bringing back Miller if there's mutual interest and I would have been the same if Griffin wanted to come back. A couple reasons stick out regarding Miller for me.

- It seems widely known that the issues were not between Adam and the staff. This seems like an important distinction for those wondering how things will go when he's back on the roster.
- If worst-case scenario happens and he moves on after one year, the timing could be optimal for a bunch of young wings that are either on the roster or about to join the team.
- Part of my outlook on him leaving (and potentially coming back) was Underwood was able to get a healthy wing (Plummer) to replace an injured player. In the world of free agency, Plummer was a great FA signing and now Miller can come back and continue his progression from his freshman year.
- This has already been said but there are folks on here with serious doubts about the health of his knee who never said anything about Damonte or now Skyy. Pick a lane with your new-found medical thoughts.

For the loyalty concerns, there are well-regarded Illinois players in the past who considered/flirted with leaving for another program. It's best to not take it personal.

I do not think anyone is blaming the staff. I think a lot of the blame is pointed directly at the toxic nature of social media and the fact that some of our Illini fans chose and justify being asshats to our players. That is not on the staff.
That's surprising....based upon the last 10 pages that sounds like it's us fans and the staff and the program. All this on rumors! I think this board needs a sports psychologist.

The fact of the matter is that whether Belo leaves or not, whether it's because of fans being asshats or not, there was a pattern of abuse towards the guy on social media that really shouldn't be up for debate as being acceptable. I really don't get why that's in question unless you just don't give two !!!!! about these kids. I just hope if he goes, he's happier wherever he lands. If Trent can't get it through your head, I'm sure I won't be able to.

Of course not. But it's also clearly not "just message board fans building a narrative" to say the social media abuse exists, it was heavily directed at Curbelo, and the team was quite aware of it.
Either way, if he leaves for a controllable reason, it's certainly a failure to lose him to another program. And if that controllable reason was that a segment of our fanbase treated his social media account as a carnival dunk tank, it's a pretty plausible narrative.
Do you think Trent would've felt the need to send the keyboard warriors statement out if the guys in the locker room were ok?
I legitimately do not get how this is a hard concept for people to wrap their brain around. Not only did Trent bring it up, Coleman Hawkins’ sister pointed it out. Mike LaTulip did an entire segment about how the backlash Curbelo has faced this year was unfair. He was asked about being a polarizing figure.

To think this is just a narrative being built is mind numbing to me.

This never was the reality
No they were/are not the only ones. But there is a reason UK in basketball, and Alabama in football have the most level 1 infractions all time. I wonder how often they have been caught compared to actual abuses. It seems in the last 30 years the NCAA has only jumped in when the FBI got actual evidence . Going back to Michigan and the numbers game guy, who also provided loans. You hire a Larry Brown, a Pitino, you know what you are getting. UK, KU have a history of coaches willing to play. We are talking Lexington, and Lawrence, Kentuck, and Kansas, not real want to go there destinations for city kids from all over the country. Pretty much rural states that do not produce a whole lot of big time bball talent. Incentives make a difference.

The players aren't the only ones posting on social media. Illinois Basketball posts IG clips before and after all of the games.
the clips are very well done. Most of the replies are positive but some are disgustingly toxic and addressed to specific players. So even if a player is not posting himself, he still is subject to abuse.
Could the athletic department edit out the truly hurtful & toxic comments? Pardon my ignorance, I'm not that involved with social media.

I still don't understand what this has to do with anything.

Other than the narrative you are trying to build by posting some tweets and then jumping to the conclusion that this is why player(s) are leaving.

It’s unfortunate Trent felt the need to come the teams defense especially for a B10 championship season. I do find that disappointing, but I think anyone trying to blame social media, the internet, or the fanbase is akin to blaming the tide for washing away your sand castle.

Nobody is saying these things didn't happen. The viewpoint that these things happening is the sole reason that Curbelo is leaving is what is being challenged, and not whether the events took place or not.
