Return to Original Institution without Participation or with Minimal Participation Exception

A student-athlete may transfer and play immediately if the student transferred to a second school and returns to his or her original school either without practicing or competing in athletics at all, except for one 14-day period (i.e. a tryout). Athletes may do this even if they were originally required to sit out for one year.

Was looking up the rules on transfer exceptions/waivers and found this strangely fitting blurb. I'm assuming he attended official LSU practices and this is therefore moot but if he didn't seems like it would fit here.

He did, that's where he tore his ACL I believe, but the words "minimal participation" and that 14-day period exception could lead to an interesting appeal case for UIUC.
I'd agree with that. Last season was effectively a sit-out year for AM. Practically speaking, I don't see why he shouldn't get credit for it (especially in light of the Will Wade situation). NCAA should grant the waiver (even if he doesn't return to Illinois), which probably means they won't.

Funny tweet by Adam Miller.

Hope his knee is better. He has a nice shot, is very athletic and good handles. He had trouble finishing at the hoop last year but with strength he can improve on this. If he wants to come back I suspect we would take him. However from a pride point of view it might be tough for him to return.

We are taught to accept the prodigal son.

Yeah, first official practice for LSU 2021-22 was October 1, I believe..and I think the tear happened on the 20th of October? So, they hadn't even played their first exhibition game.

I'm sure that I like others was looking forward to seeing Miller be in a big part of next year's team. But we do seem to have good depth there, and I'll be excited to see what Adam can do with that time to fully rehab. Would be thrilled to see him in 2023-24.
Why do people keep saying this? As of now, we have very little depth at the guard spots going into next year. Just three guards at this point - two of them incoming FR and the other a Soph that didn't play much (and there's even been speculation that he might leave).

Again this could change if Clark, etc decide to join us. But right now, we have a significant lack of depth there.

As someone currently recovering from an ACL tear, he will be much stronger when he comes back. He may lose some bounce and maybe a bit more tentativeness going to the hoop, but I expect him to be an absolute bully on the defensive end (see Da'Monte). He still should have his offensive skill set that could see him score 10-15 ppg as his outside shot should likely improve through his recovery.

Alot of players would. The point is..most players don't unless they are at the top of their teams food chain.

Curry had the feet of a tumbler..Great, nimble post moves.

I think Kofi should model himself after Steven Adams in the NBA personally. Big bruiser that grabs boards and enforces a bit. Aren't many spot available for that though.
One of the main reasons I expect Kofi to stay at least one year if not two is because he won't be a first round pick or at least for sure first rounder. If not and your making close to or in excess of a million bucks in college then why risk it by leaving? I doubt Kofi goes anywhere. Im no insider but that just makes sense.

Any chance Illinois will try to get involved with either of the Murray State studs? Both would fill HUGE needs on this roster.

The whole AM situation is absolutely crazy. Hope he’s back but also hope he does what’s best for him! However, this is the most prime example as to why as fans, we never bash a student athlete for decommitting, leaving or just choosing another school! Never know what the future holds.
What's important is that the coaching staff does this. And it appears BU has this philosophy. We have 10s of thousands of fans and it's impossible to control what a few numskulls might say. In addition to opposing fans posing as Illini fans to make us look bad.

I don't think BU likes having 13 guys expecting to play right away. Judging by this board, he can't find enough mintues for 8 guys, let alone 12-13. Every year it seems they have a transfer sitting out or a freshman a long way from playing, etc. Team chemistry already is a challenge and keeping everyone happy. Miller sitting out and getting to 100 percent again and ready for a big year in 2023, great. You still have 11-12 other guys looking to play.

You are right that depth might be a problem but there's a long way to go before we see what next year's roster looks like and how much kids like Epps can play right away, or if they take another older guard.
