If Podz leaves, that will be a big loss to Illinois and I will never understand Underwood's persistent refusal to put him in. Was this some kind of power or ego thing from Underwood for his dad, like we always heard about with Adam Miller's kin? Seemed like in games when we really, really needed somebody who could make baskets, he MIGHT get in occasionally for a nanosecond, then back out to cheer on the sidelines. Seemed like a much more engaged and enthusiastic Illini than some others. Hope he stays. This portal stuff stinks and is ruining college basketball AND making even more of a mockery of the "college" part of it than ever (see UNC and Kansas, just for two).

If Underwood thought Podz was capable of filling in more, he would have played more often. More often than not, I will take a coaches’ side on playing time decisions. Fans don’t make good coaches.
Yes and if we had 3 guys like those that just finished their eligibility next year then how much would they limit minutes for our new guys. That situation is why he didn't play more. Experience clearly matters to BU. That doesn't mean Podz can't play as well as our new recruits. Just that Trent, Plummer and DMW had a covid year an that caused all the young wings to play less .

It takes some players time to develop and be effective at the college level. The game is quicker than high school and players are stronger. Remember Roger Powell didn’t play much as a freshman and turned into a solid college player. The hard part is to convince kids their time will come if they work hard

Actually I see that #everydayguys puts a bunch of recruits in Illinois jerseys and then the recruits retweet it, out of politeness, I suppose.

Just saw Jalen Hooks mentioned on Twitter as a possibility for illinois, and he liked the tweet. Maybe he's been mentioned before but I haven't noticed it.

Things will be quiet on 2023 recruiting until after the current roster is settled.

I don't seem to know anything about how a 2nd year in the system Podz will end up...does anyone? I'm guessing he's putting in the work to find out.
Hard to root against a kid who routinely stays after games to get his shots up. For a top 25-150 recruit, the difference between being all- conference & bench fodder is often work ethic.
If any of the incoming freshmen can beat out a kid like him with the benefit of a full year in the program, we have a stud on our hands.

You know what impresses me about Brad Underwood? It’s his ability to win a Big Ten title, while simultaneously and vindictively denying playing time to the 5th guard on the depth chart in order to stick it to his dad to make sure he knows who the man is.

So BU started a freshman Miller nearly game and refused to play a freshman Podz to show their “kin” who is boss? Come on man.

Can we let things play out...please...these are big decisions these young men are making...this year was tough for all the freshman because of the super seniors....and I have a feeling that they might scan our posts occasionally...it can't be helpful to hear you are most likely to leave.

From Temple

Based on the stats, I don't get the Jeremiah Williams recruitment compared to others already on the team. These numbers are while playing in the American conference where the median team is ranked ~100. For comparison, Minn was ranked 100 and Neb 117 on that scale.

Pro: Supposedly a great defender; I have not seen them play.
Pro: Good Assist/TO ratio
Pro: Simeon, Chi (connections)
Con: Terrible shooter. 63% free throws for a guard is outright terrifying. Teams can sag all day and clog the center. We have seen where this leads. It is pretty much a recipe to minimize Kofi's value.

Well I may not be doing back flips for him but on the other hand he does bring some Steven Bardo like traits to the PG position if called upon. He has size, can defend, care for the ball, and get to the bucket.. Plus hopefully surrounded by better players he could hit a higher percentage than 33 percent his freshman year from outside the arc. I don't know how good Temple was or the quality of the shots he took.

I'm familiar with Jeremiah Williams; watched him play while in high school (no creepy creep from me). No doubt a DI talent though not sure if he's Big Ten quality, but then again guys like Trent Meacham and Rayvonte Rice showed they can ball at that level.

Such weird takes. I trust in Brad. All of our young guys have me excited for the future, regardless of who's next on the roster. All three of the freshmen managed to find ways to impact critical games this year at different times. All contributed and you can't overstate how tough that is to do on a team that already had strong, top of the conference/country level talent on the roster.
I trust in Brad.
