Well, this is already different than how I thought things typically came down.

I was under the impression that most all credible information shared on this board came from leaks by the 20-person coaching/player group directly around Underwood. (i.e. Good news! Press conference being scheduled for 2:00pm Friday - BU is flying back from his FL vacation; or, WCIA heading to HS gymnasium Tuesday night at 5:30pm; or, Tipton reached out to staff to confirm xyz; or, player and his parents were at our shoot-around last night and informed us they've delayed their flight home; or, Loren Tate sat next to Chet at last night's alumni dinner and was encouraged to be available all day Sunday; or, Lieb is in my SexEd class and gave me the thumbs-up when I asked if the Skyy would be bright and sunny on Friday).

I wasn't expecting info to be coming from the player and/or his entourage. The 20-person Illini coaching/player group would seem to be a lot more trustworthy and loyal than random HS players and their people scattered across the US.
isn't it one and the same? Hopefully staff is getting updates from kid/people...

He looks solid.

Old man rant time. I hate how younger players who attack go off one leg darn near every single time these days. Jump stops and pro hops are lost arts and the second you get bumped trying to long step or euro through a crowd your finished. I get the trade off of covering more spacing and potentially squeezing through a tighter spot. But the power and balance of a pro hop or jump stop just opens up way more options.
Watching the Elite 8 I noticed just how often most of those teams were driving, jump stopping, then looking for a kick out or their own shot. It made me realize just how little we did that this season.

I like Podz high arching jumper and it does look nice. I hope with more volume his percentage gets much better than the 23 percent he had vs DI talent. I think it will but shooting in high school or AAU is different than he B10 and I hope he improves next season.
He just needs playing time. His shot is not an issue... trust me. THAT KID CAN SHOOT! He just needs to get comfortable on the court and that'll come with more minutes. I love this kids game.

It's because our guards were so small and it was more optimal to play through the post.

Once Kofi leaves you will (presumably) see more of that...particularly since everyone coming in is 6'3+ and won't get lost in the trees.

Agree. Game just needs to slow down a bit for him. Not surprising he was third out of the 3 freshmen this year given his HS level of competition. He experienced by far the biggest jump. But I love his potential and think he’s going to be a great player for us. Thinking he and Goode will be thorns in the sides of the rest of the BIG the next few years.

With the understanding that next year is way more top of mind, has there been any updates or movement with the 2023 class (JJ Taylor, etc.)?

Me like him game. On a side note, loved seeing my old HS gym in those vids (York). Memories...

Me like him game too! (Sorry, when I read this it came out in a caveman voice).

Not necessarily a function of height. Plenty of smaller guards are able to get into the lane and make things happen. We just didn't have many with that skillset and mentality this year.

Friday gut instinct: Good on Sky Clark. Not so good on TSJ due some credit issue. Not that he isn’t a good student because I’ve heard he is but because of him being a transfer. Hopefully someone has solid info that can tell me that is incorrect. Really love to see this young man in Orange N Blue.

TSJ will be subject to the following UIUC rule which means he would have to stay in class for 2 years (4 semesters assuming 15 hr semester) to finish his bachelor's at UIUC. This is of course, if he chooses to to finish his degree.

§ 3-801 CREDIT REQUIREMENTS FOR DEGREES

  1. First Bachelor’s Degree
    1. In addition to specific course and scholastic average requirements, each candidate for a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign must earn at least 60 semester hours of University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign credit, of which at least 21 hours must be 300 or 400 level courses of University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign credit.
I do not know what kind of flexibility there is to this requirement. Nonetheless, it seems like a pretty significant hurdle if he imagines himself being a 1 and done at his next college stop.

I do know that some of the insiders eluded to credit concerns when TSF first hit the portal. So maybe they know of some workarounds.

This only matters if he wants the degree from U of I. If he doesn't care he can just leave after year 1 -- nobody can stop him.

Understood. I just can't imagine going through 4 years of college and not finishing his degree. Especially for a guy with an uncertain future beyond CBB.

Is an interesting topic. It seems like you are saying this is what TSJ needs to do if he wants to finish his degree. Or are you saying he MUST finish his degree if he is to land in the Illini camp. Can anyone contractually stipulate the latter?
