If so, is this assuming Bosmans is gone? Or is Kofi still very much in the air?
I keep saying it, but why do we need a transfer big if Kofi is back? What transfer is going to come to backup Kofi with Dainja, Cohawk, and Rodgers at Competition at the 5/4. BBV gave us some very good minutes last year, so if he wants to stay I don't see the point in trying to replace him with a transfer.

Yes. If you’re planning on Verdonk being a key rotation piece, you’re probably in trouble at the P5 level. But hard to think of a better option for an “emergency big”/13th scholly that a guy who has show the ability to rebound and body up the biggest, most physical bigs in the conference in spot minutes. I love Verdonk and hope he stays.

My thoughts exactly. Bosmans is the ideal backup big that knows the system. Why replace an every day guy that seems to want to be in 🧡💙?????

You need someone in development for when the older bigs eventually graduate (or use the portal). If you neglect to keep the cupboard full at all positions, you're eventually caught with your pants down and put on the hot seat. You always want to grab what you can when you can.

But if Kofi is back, why would a transfer choose Illinois. Makes no sense.
No one gets every 5* player. You need a mix. Guys who are 3* understand that they're there to develop into eventual starters. The only trick is that in today's world you have to hope they don't get impatient and bolt.

Cause he's an extremely limited basketball player?
miss GIF

I love the defense, but offensively...

I hope Derek Piper is right. He is usually pretty good but has missed on a few recent ones after Illinois visits.

This type of recruiting on an annual basis would make us a top 10 program every year. We are reloading on the fly instead of rebuilding.

Even if Kofi goes to NBA we could have a very good team

PG Jayden, Skyy
2G Harris, Podz
SF Goode, Melendez
PF Hawkins, Rodgers
C Dainja, BBV, Lieb

2 open slots -- TSJ and a transfer portal upperclassman backup PG or C would make my roster perfect

"caught with your pants down and put on the hot seat... " That sounds extra painful.

It's good that we even get to have "line of succession" questions to consider these days. A clear manifestation of what it means to "build a culture". It was always how can we add to the talent base every year to be competitive with Groce and Weber.

I take Payne's departure as a leading indicator of Kofi's return. But, if it goes the other way then I could see Brad going all in for a Baylor style position-less move the ball fast attack style of play that would appeal to both players and fans.

Life in the portal era is getting really bizarro. It's becoming quite the proverbial box of chocolates. Does anything exemplify that more than LSU having to go out and sign an entirely new team for 2022-23? It will be weird to see Curbelo and his floppy hair in a St. John's uniform, but then again he is returning home. Much bigger PR community in Queens than C-U. My Puerto Rican friends think he has a spot waiting for him on the Puerto Rican National team, eventually.

I am sure Andre wants to play in NBA. To do so he must

* get stronger
* develop a mid range jumper
* get rid of sloppy turnovers
* learn to play in team concept on offense. No coach wants their pg dribbling for 20 seconds while rest of team stands around. Good role model would be Trey Young or Ja Morant. However both them are good shooters.

he's Kofi's buddy tho. If Kofi is back so will he
So if Kofi is back, which seems likely, I don't think there is a transfer big. If Kofi were to leave the staff would obviously be looking for a high impact transfer. Dainja may be good but way to unknown to be the key going into 22-23.

There are two openings now and Skky and TSJ have reservations for the table. We will see if there are any other openings (would think anything that will happen on the outbound side would happen in the next week and a half)
