Murray announcement time? Not expecting an Illinois commitment but interested in his choice.
I'm interested in that too. I am also very much in Kofi and several others plans for next season. The players and coaches surely met by now one on one. It would be interesting to know who is staying or going so we can fill out the roster the best we can. There are a few very interesting prospects in the portal but the domino's needs to fall soon or we may miss on some. Some may wait but Murray isn't.

New here, just want to recap:

Brandon Murray
Tonight 8PM
Likely Georgetown

Kofi
Within a week
50/50ish

TSJ
After Kofi
If Kofi returns likely comes to ILL

Hopkins
After TSJ
Back up plan if Murray and TSJ go else where (ILL is first choice)

Ramey
Distant
Would need someone to leave roster and is ok with reduced minutes

Granderson and Hutch unlikely to use the extra year.
Lieb wants Illinois degree so doesn't want o leave.

This leaves 1 scholarship open unless Kofi goes to NBA

All this sound about right?

I think its safe to say that Podz, Goode, RJ, Ben, Dain, Clark, Rogers, Epps, Harris and Hawk are committed for next season. Still waiting on Kofi, Lieb, Hutch and Jake to decide. I am guessing that if we are at 10 now with three spots left that 2 have already told Brad they were not coming back which is why we are still recruiting players like TSJ and Murray. My guess is that Hutch and Jake have told Brad but nothing official has been posted. I think Lieb and Kofi will stay which will give us 1 spot to fill.

Also the consensus on here seems to be that TSJ is the fan favorite but the coaches want Murray?
I think TSJ would be better because he brings more experience and better 3PT shooting.
Murray has more years, but is that really as big of a benefit now considering the new transfer portal?
What's the coaches reason for favoring Murray here?

Where did you get that 1 is favored over the other? It sounds to me that they want both of them, but know they probably won't get both.

I just read it on here in one of the threads. Obviously they're both really good players, and we'd be lucky to get either.

Does Hutch have 2 years of eligibility left or just his bonus year?

For the bonus eligibility year:
Those players count against scholarship numbers this year right?
For those Athletes to come back, it has to be a mutual decision between the team and player right? No obligation for the team to give those players scholarships. Is that right?

For Hutch, I believe he technically only has his bonus year yet - would need to apply for an injury waiver to get any additional time.

For your second question you are correct. Last season was the only one you could go over 13 by having players on bonus years (Trent and Monte). Starting'22-'23 you're back to 13 scholarship players including bonus players.

For your last question, I believe it's technically correct but not 100% sure. Player can decide if they want to use the bonus year or not, and school/team can decide if they have room for them. In my personal consideration of the team, I'm not considering Hutch or Grandison as part of the team until I hear they are in, rather than considering them in until they say they are out as I know some others are thinking.

Kofi more like 65/35 for staying. Staff is still waiting on an official word. Heard the visit went really well....but this recruitment has been super quiet. We will see. Also if Kofi goes to the league Hopkins becomes a lot more likely. Staff would like to get 2 front court guys if he leaves. With that being said, I expect him to come back. NIL money is crazy

I thought someone mentioned converting Lieb's scholarship into an academic one so he doesn't take a bball scholarship or is this not a thing that can happen?

#23
Is it the assumption that TSJ only wants to come here if Kofi stays?

Is this because he feels it gives him a better shot at a deep tourney run, or is there some other reason that anyone knows of?

Expecting Murray to announce for Georgetown, but I wouldn't be surprised if he goes to us or Tennessee either
