Wouldn’t that be tampering? Even if they initiate it?
The university just had 300 Million donated to build facilities. It also makes millions of of student athletes and have for years. Like it or not these players are now pros even though they are called NIL student athletes. Sure a degree at U if I is great but so is Michigan, Duke or others. Also I doubt most of the boosters got to where they are by not trying to market themselves or get to an environment where at the very least they can't make close to the top of their earning potential. This may be an opportunity for some of these young men to make more money for a few years than they may ever. Most aren't making the NBA. After watching the games last night I hope Kofi didn't make the wrong choice himself and I wish him the best. For some of them I understand why they are doing this and I'm not sure most boosters if they were in the NIL athletes shoes wouldnt do the same to take care of themselves and their families They may love the program but family comes first. I love my job but if I was approached and could double what I made at the very least I'd consider it and probably take it. Certainly I would have as a 20 year old, could pay off a nice hime, or invest it. NIL is part of recruiting now and if we aren't competitive in that market then we could be at a major disadvantage now days.I suppose like many others, I have been a daily Loyalty lurker, yet never posted over the years until today. I also happen to be a booster. I realize this topic has been discussed many times before but I have genuinely been torn and wanted to give these new NCAA rules some time. However, between NIL & this endless portal/recruiting chaos, I have decided I am done in regards to any future donations. This may not be the right thread, but I wonder how many others are feeling the same. If these kids no longer value an Illinois degree and no longer demonstrate LOYALTY to the program, coaches, fanbase, etc., why should we boosters continue to support this program? In my mind, Illinois was the role model, always leading the conference in terms of actual education of athletes. I know we are all desperate to win a title, but at what cost? Yes, I know the NCAA changed the rules & this is just the new normal that we can do nothing about. Yet, it seems we are now teaching greed and impatience as values to our student athletes, most whom will never play beyond college level. I will always be a fan but can no longer donate to a program or system lacking integrity.

And I believe an insider laughed at an early comment about TSJ going to Michigan.Thought TSJ was a ?
I'll say. That's only going to make things worse.
This system has more integrity than the old system into which you willingly donated. At least in this system it's much more out in the open. In revenue sports, the idea of a student-athlete playing for a free education has been an illusion for years.I suppose like many others, I have been a daily Loyalty lurker, yet never posted over the years until today. I agree with parts of your response and TegrityBooster. I hate easy and arbitrary transfer rules. I love NIL - pay these kids. There's a larger discussion to be had about post-secondary education functioning as a billion dollar semi-pro sports league. There's also a larger discussion about big colleges essentially acting as large institutional investment firms that also happen to have a school attached and the federal government subsidizing their growth with huge amounts of student loans that may or may not need to be paid back. The whole university system is broken. In the absence of fundamental post-secondary education reform I'd like our semi-pro teams to be competitive. The university just had 300 Million donated to build facilities. Agree, but loyalty is a two way street. Too much blame on kids for leaving yet over recruiting is ok.I suppose like many others, I have been a daily Loyalty lurker, yet never posted over the years until today. What world have you been living in for last 60 years? There has never been any integrity in CBB. Now that it's out in the open you think its ruining the game? Come on now. This is one of the most head in the sand takes I've seen in a while.I suppose like many others, I have been a daily Loyalty lurker, yet never posted over the years until today. This is sad but I can certainly see your point. I just think that we are in a new world. Reality has changed almost like when COVID hit us all. From my point of view, I think the support is to put the best product on the floor (field, course, court, whatever) we can and in the modern world, that means supporting a program to give them the ability to get the kids each year that they need. Whether that's recruiting incoming freshman or portal athletes. So, I am not looking at it from the athletes perspective. The NCAA has created this Free Agent type of mentality. I am supporting the program. Not saying you aren't. Just saying this is the perspective that I'm looking at it from. All this said, I think the NCAA needs to look at this new rule.I suppose like many others, I have been a daily Loyalty lurker, yet never posted over the years until today. Insiders are saying Grandison is gone. Time to move on.My hope is either Grandison returns or we add an experienced guard through the portal
I'm sure it's been hard on the coaching staffs, but this rule is a gigantic step in the right direction. This is sad but I can certainly see your point. I just think that we are in a new world. If you want to talk about integrity, you could look at it in terms of the NCAA in general who have, for decades, made billions off the talents of of student athletes and forbade them from profiting off of those talents directly. Yes an education and housing, have value, but as the free market is showing it pales in comparison to what these athletes are actually worth in terms of dollars to their respective institutions. The specter of amateurism has been a joke for years, as evidenced by the snail-like pace the NCAA has adopted to enforce its own standards, particularly when its most profitable brands are involved.I suppose like many others, I have been a daily Loyalty lurker, yet never posted over the years until today. Took me awhile to learn this one.....lolIf you want to talk about integrity, you could look at it in terms of the NCAA in general who have, for decades, made billions off the talents of of student athletes and forbade them from profiting off of those talents directly. Loyalty is a two way street. The process of recruiting is much like dating. You put your best foot forward and often tell the object of your desire what they want to hear. Previously, student athletes who were misled had little recourse but to stay in relationships that were bad for them for one reason or another. If anything the addition of above-board compensation, and eased transfer rules, will lead to MORE integrity in that process. Coaches have to be brutally honest about the situation they are asking the student athlete join. If they set outsized expectations, or make promises they don't intend to keep, they will lose their player. It doesn't mean loyalty won't exist. It means it will have to be earned. Which, in my opinion, is the way it should be.
With Clark and Epps on the way, we don't need an "experienced" PG. We need help at the 4, and probably a decent backup center. We need at least some experiencevor PG. Ramsey still in the mix?
