I'll be sad (or hopefully deep in dementia) the day I stop laughing at the same, childish things. It's a large part of what makes the day go around.
When I am in deep dementia, I will be in a home filled with calendars dated 2005, and period-appropriate furniture, appliances, etc. My family or caregivers will have pre-arranged instructions to have Illini games on an endless loop, with 'technical difficulties' having wiped out the 'broadcast' of the Ohio State and North Carolina games. I will be furious about missing the NC game, but they will be instructed to tell me that we won. Soon after, I will have forgotten all the above, and the process can begin again.

You can certainly be optimistic, but by appearances to date we aren't adjusting. That could be admin, coaching, or alumni.

Granted, this whole process (outside of the Pack announcement) is very opaque. So perhaps we have adjusted extremely well. But there is nothing you can point to that proves that.
We just had a transfer be our 2nd leading scorer and retained our All-American due to his NIL earning potential during a B10 championship year (how is that not successful adjusting?!?!).

The deadline to enter the portal hasn't even hit yet and we still have 3(?) open rosters spots...with a staff that has a +.500 record on hitting on transfers and has brought in 3 straight top 25 recruiting classes. Maybe let's wait and see before declaring them failures?

NIL and the transfer portal are certainly causing their own havoc but I think the big one will come in response to NCAA vs. Alston SCOTUS ruling. Payment (and definition) of educational vs. non-educational expenses, classification of athletes as employees, impact on Title IX, etc. will all lead to a possible seismic shift in the entire landscape of college athletics.

Hold onto your hats.
Having constantly been on the sour side of seismec landscapes that constantly tilted in the opposite direction, I look forward to this possible shift.

I know the NCAA is considered "evil" and all, but who knows what is right and just. Remember when the NCAA started none of this was predatory. Athletic scholarships to cover tuition along with room and board, for playing a sport, seems fair to me. There weren't billion dollar TV deals for College Football and March Madness.. that stuff came later and the old way no longer made sense. Giving players a share of the cut seems fair to me.. but like this? Legalized bagman like Ruiz just engaging in a blatant pay-to-play? It's all very dirty. I would prefer if the players be allowed to unionize and collectively bargain as a unit to bring some semblance and order to the whole mess. Players should be allowed compensation, but the way it's going about it needs to change. This situation with Wong and Miami feels like a straw that breaks the camel's back for a need for some common-sense reform to work something out that is fair to the players but not the wild wild west.

Who are Illinois's biggest bagmen anyways? I'm happy to contribute what I can for the Illini Basketball cause, but would prefer to not be engaging in these Ruiz-like shenanigans and players holding teams hostage and the like.
The issue with the bolded is the players are not being compensated for playing. These NIL deals are essentially endorsement deals, which the pros also have (just think of all the Baker Mayfield or Peyton Manning ads on TV). Maybe the answer is to just straight up have contracts and treat it like the revenue generating league it is. The problem would be that the NCAA could never enforce a salary cap, which would be necessary. You would have to see the power 5 split away and come to an agreement among themselves on a cap. I find this highly unlikely as the SEC and B1G jockey for the biggest TV contracts.

Best players=Best teams=Biggest TV payouts=Most money available to players=Best players

Are you a close relative of our previous beloved poster KBattle? Because we’ve sorely been missing your kind positive energy around here…

Plus 45% from 3. Stats are a lot better than I realized. Seems like he has all the measurables and shooting for a modern nba 4. Are we sure he would come back to college for a 5th year? If Delano Blanton can get drafted, presumably on his measurables, would think Nance would have a good chance of getting picked as well.
I asked myself that same question every day until I realized Banton has a connection with the Raptors. He's a Toronto native and they took a second-round flyer on him. His dad knew a lot of the higher-ups within the organization
