Glad I'm not the only one who thinks Nance may be getting a little overhyped. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have him here. But his 4 years at NU got him a honorable mention nod this year from only the media. If I was CoHawk, I'd stay and work my feathers off, and see who gets the PT.

I was there, waaaaay at the 🔝

Being on bourbon Street was a blast despite all the drunk LSU fans chanting “tiger bait” in your face every block
We were there in the end zone - about row 5. I remember some wealthy alums asked us how we got our tickets - our answer? Ticketmaster!

Good times - Bourbon Street on New Year's Eve. The Tiger Bait BS got old, though.

Nancy has played four years of college ball already. Right now, he's better than Hawk. But I think Hawk can get there. May never shoot 45% from 3 like Nance, but IMO he's a better rebounder already.

I think it's ridiculous that the two of them should be mutually exclusive. Right now, Hawk and Dainja are our only legitimate PF/Cs so we absolutely need to add someone. They can't play each 40 min/game. Heck, Dainja has only play 8 minutes of basketball in two years.
I never said Hawk didn't have a role if Nance comes, just the opposite actually. Hawk should stay and compete and get better and try to compete for time His time will come with hard work, he has three years left. . However it's BUs job to make the best team he can for the U of I and if he can bring in Nance then he should because we will be better with Nance or someone like him than with Hawk right now. BU is in charge not Coleman and I hope He stays but if not then maybe he thinks the grass is greener like Miller did. That's up to him.

Nance is a big time upgrade….40+% from 3, 23% d rebound rate(or close to that)
3-pt shooting…definitely. But he played on a horrendous NW team and was relied on heavily. I would imagine Hawkins would have had similar numbers (outside of 3s) if he was on NW last year.

I want Nance, he would be a tremendous addition to the front court that currently needs help. But losing Hawkins would hurt this team and some folks are ignoring that.

Yeah, I don't want Nance at the expense of CoHawk. I would absolutely love to see a rotation of Hawkins, Nance, Dainja at the 4/5, with Goode, Rodgers mixed in. That's crazy frontcourt depth and perimeter options.

Why? If he's leaving because Nance is better than him, that doesn't seem to be a negative.

Recruiting has changed, for better or for worse. Balancing classes is no longer a thing, you just go get another experienced transfer next year. We need big men. We only have 2 that will see the floor. If one of those two is threatening to leave if we bring in another, I'd offer to pack his bags for him. The team needs depth, if you're putting yourself ahead of the team, then get to steppin. There are a lot of guys out there.

That said Coleman has said he's always played with strong competition and he's never left a team yet. Not sure why we're assuming he's gone, except for one out of context tweet.

I am 60 and am waiting for a Rose Bowl win to go with an NCAA basketball title.

1984 Rose Bowl UCLA 45 Illinois 9
2002 Sugar Bowl (BCS bumped B10 champ from Rose Bowl) LSU 47 Illinois 34. Was like a home game for LSU
2008 Rose Bowl USC 49 Illinois 17

Counting on Brett to make it happen!
I'm 62 and 1984 was when my then 2 year old daughter learned the words d... and sh..

It doesn't make any sense at all. Right now, we have two guys that can legitimately play PF/C in Hawk and Dainja. 80 min/game at those two spots and neither Hawk nor Dainja is going to be 40 min/game. Heck, Dainja has hardly played in two years of college ball. It would be malpractice for a coach not to pick up another player at that spot.

Nance is really good. He's been a bit overlooked because of how bad Northwestern has been. He's just one guy and can only do so much, he's the reason they weren't even terrible-r. His advanced stats were some of the best in the entire Big 10. Any team would be really lucky to add him.

After the portal, NLI, now they need a lawyer, a marketing agent, a financial planner.

No doubt a school now needs to pay student-athletes money to get good grades

Here's some Nance stats. I feel like people think Northwestern and haven't looked at the numbers...
https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/pete-nance-1.html#all_leaderboard

Player Efficiency Rating - 8th best player in the Big 10
Effective FG% - 8th in the Big 10
Defensive Rebound % - 5th in the Big 10
Block % - 5th in the Big 10
and on and on.

I once had a job where, when i didn't get an interview for a promotion, i asked to take the role of the guy who got promoted. I needed the visibility that the other spot offered, and so does Pete Nance. He did the work and still only got Honorable Mention All Big 10, because he did it at NW.

All that has happened the last 3 years and today is why you hire Dawgs and not nice guys.

Whitman and Brad are 🐶

Th*mas and Gr*oce were nice guys.

If we want to be blue blood we gotta step it up in this current environment of NIL and mass transfer garbage.

Reading all the posts about texting dads hit me all in the feels.

mine has been gone almost 3 years. He missed a great run so far! Last game we watched together was the MSU game with the Ayo moments.

first “moment“ after he died was the Wisconsin GW FG football game. Of course I was on cloud nine for a few hours. That was until I realized I hadn’t gotten my typical “ILL” text from him. I was crushed all over again.

text your dads, brothers, whomever you discuss Illinois sports with. Then call them too. It is all over too fast.

No worries though, a lot of others fill the void with conversations 🙂 just not quite the same thing.

For all of you,

Great get in TSJ. Getting Nance would also be very nice. If not him hopefully someone else like him. It is still uncertain whether Hawkins and Dain can give us 30 minutes a game of affective play at the 4 and 5. Another experienced player at those spots is much needed.
