I guess you're using the other definition of shady, but this is what I call a shady mustache. You could take a peaceful nap out of the heat under that thing.

Just happened to coincidentally vacation annually in Hawaii for a number of years with this guy and his wife (Katharine Ross). Got a big kick simply out of hearing Sam say "good morning" each day!

Saying Goode and #2 spot in the same sentence here will bring discontented reactionary wrath by a few here. Say "wing." The truth is Goode really does not have the ball handling skills to be a #2 spot in the truest sense of the word, I'll give them that. But keeping him out of the starting lineup is imho, at least for the first half of the season, is a mistake. I have read that the coaches are really working on RJ's ball handling skills. RJ and Goode need to play together and heavy minutes. They are best friends, and Goode is going to be a vocal leader. Ty Rodgers is more of a true #2, but he is a freshman. We'll see how the starting lineup progresses as the season unfolds. Trusting the coaches.
I recommend you schedule a doctor's appointment ASAP to get your sarcasm-meter checked.

I will say. I think the staff has earned some credit on developing guards and wings. But I’m still cautious when it comes to their big development. Kofi was a 4 star. Obviously they improved him to an AA level. Giorgi was okay. But a lot of the fliers (lieb, Hamlin, vesel, ebo, Higgs, bbv) haven’t really panned out yet. Brandon lieb has double the amount of college points that Dain does. I’m very excited about this roster. But not having an experienced quality big worries me. Really hope to land a big that played 15-25 minutes in a quality conference for some insurance on dain.
Quality bigs are a bigger unicorn than people realize in college basketball imo. There's only so many "True 5's" out there whereas scoring 2 guards are very dime a dozen in the high school/college ranks. How many people near 7 foot exist at all, and are able to move well at that size with their center of gravity? Just not that many. It's easy to look at Kofi and think "yeah, he's so big and overpowering, of course he was great" but he was "only" a top 50 recruit that became a 2X All American, so in actuality he wildly overachieved his recruiting ranking and got quite a bit better throughout college. Ebo... Hamlin... Lieb, all those guys were true longshots to ever turn into anything.

I could see Goode starting a few games during the season, or at least it wouldn't shock me, but because they are best friends is an interesting take, and RJ has handles enough to play the 2

I think they would prefer not to have to start him....he is just limited athletically
not necessarily because he's outplaying everyone, sort of just he knows his role and if someone were to be banged up or slumping, insert Luke. I agree, with our roster right now I don't see Luke starting in any hypothetical lineup.

Agreed. I have no qualms about starting ultra talented freshman guards. Had I never seen Dee Brown as a frosh, Frankie Williams as a frosh and Derek Harper as a frosh, I might feel different.
Jalen Brunson had a pretty successful freshman season.

I am very curious as to who we are looking at in the portal to provide proven leadership at the PG spot. There were a few earlier that have been mentioned but committed elsewhere but is BU going to go solely with our young bloods at PG. I am sure we have some capable freshman but I would still hope we find someone. Skyy can certainly play the one or two spot but some experience would be nice.

Yea I could definitely see Rodgers at the 2, just don’t know if we will have enough minutes to spread around after Goode and Ayo…

It's nice that Illinois basketball has finally reached the level of recruiting that we are having conversations about how we can get enough tick for talented players as opposed to figuring out how we can have serviceable players to give starters a rest, deal with injuries or have solid backups to players who get into foul trouble.

Quite honestly, there should NEVER be a time when Illinois is not in the mix to get the best talent in the World.

Yes, we all know about the bleak times and various missteps over the years. But overall, the program has been Top 12 in the Nation even with those missteps. And right near the top of a strong legacy power conference.

The Illini program simply has been restored to its rightful place by some very capable people to the status that is has always, and will always, deserve.

As a fan base, we will never get so complacent and arrogant as some other fan bases around the country (that will remain nameless) that think that winning a title every year is their personal birthright.

But what IS a birthright is that the Illini are always a Top Ten program in the country and that it is lead by the kind of capable individuals that value the program as it is being led today so that the most talented ballers always have the Illini in their sights.

Success is fun. So, let's continue to always have that kind of fun.

We seriously need a pinned thread that is only meme pictures. 0 typed words allowed.
That sounds like an interesting idea, but I'd allow 1 type of worded post...the proverbial "I've been doing X all day, can someone summarize for me what's been going on?" I'd love to see the response to that. :D
