I would think Michigan would want him, but I can't picture Nance having any interest in playing for Howard. No inside info, he just seems smarter than that.
I would think that Tim Anderson's relationship think Nance Sr having a friendship and working out together would give us a solid advantage. That is one reason I am optimistic about our chances of landing his son.

Really warming to the idea of letting our ball handling ride with who we’ve got right now.

Mayer feels like an even longer shot at this point considering anywhere from 85-90% of those in the combine stick in the draft (though I assume if you factor in those who do leave probably fit his mold) and the fact UNC is a real threat. Would love him but it seems unlikely.

Nance is borderline must get for me, but there surely are other centers who would move the needle.

I’d still like some sort of insurance at PG, but I have a lot of trust in this staff to build the roster correctly.

I would also think their family would recognize a good coach as opposed to a poor coach, which we have one of each when talking Illinois and Michigan.

Well we may perceive Howard in that light but it doesn't mean others do. He has been and likely will continue to be among the best recruiting coaches in the B10. Likely our staff biggest opponent along with Indiana now with their new coach but we shall see. Both have NBA experience as coaches and players. I would think players like that about them.

Agreed. The Nance’s are an nba family and Howard is obviously an NBA guy. Foolish to overlook them so easily in my opinion.

The idea that Howard can’t coach also bothers me. Yes he’s done dumb things like hit people, and Michigan ducked us in Covid, but he also has nba level experience and they don’t just give those jobs out.

When someone says Howard is not a good coach, and your response is that he's a good recruiter, that pretty much tells us everything we need to know about his overall coaching ability.

Cuonzo Martin could recruit also, but we saw how well that worked out when his ability to coach was exposed. I haven't been impressed by Michigan's on the court coaching since he got there. Some families will be ok with that, but the Nance family doesn't seem to fit that mold. However, I may be wrong. lol Time will tell unless he ends up sticking in the draft or going elsewhere.

Seriously why, BU and his staff are good recruiters. That doesn't make them poor coaches,l. it makes them good ones. I didn't say Howard was a great coach but he is a great recruiter and him and Woodson I feel are our biggest opposition. If you don't that's fine but his recruit record says he is much better coach and recruiter than Clownzo . Like it or not they did better than us lately in the tourney due to his talented roster and his recruiting prowess. I hate saying Ng that too because I am not a fan of his but those are the facts

Can't argue that they have gone further than us in the tourney lately. I also don't think you can say he's not a good recruiter, which in my opinion covers up some of his downfalls on the court. I just don't see Michigan being a good fit for Nance, but yeah, they will be one of our biggest recruiting rivals going forward.

Also, please be kind in your "I told you so" if Nance goes to Michigan. lol

Oh I think he will be in orange and blue. Tim Anderson will get it done! If not then they will find someone.

I made no mention of "better." SC is clearly the highest profile of the three.
Disagree, St. Johns has a more historic program. And it's more about going to a school that will be relevant nationally or make the tourney while you are there which both Santa Clara and St. Johns have a better shot at doing.

Being good at coaching and being a good recruiter are not mutually exclusive. Player development, game management, team morale among many other skills are involved. One can be good/bad at different parts of the job.

SC is in a bigger conference, but St John's is clearly a higher profile program with a whole lot more history and better recruiting territory. The SC men's BB program is at best 4th in the pecking order there, behind FB, Baseball, Women's BB and possibly soccer
