I mean, would it really be Loyalty without going down this type of rabbit hole?

Honestly I get more concerned with the Recruiting Thread is nothing but boring recruiting posts. And usually we learn something. Like today I learned St. Johns is in Queens...and it's 43' above sea level. None of us knew that before today. Now you can use it in an unreasonable way to end a drunk argument.

"You don't even know the elevation of St. Johns University! Idiot!"
Reading this argument has got me thinking. If a program is defined by the conference they are in, then a power five school like SC should beat out St. John’s. If going by basketball royalty, a Big East school of St. John’s get the nod. When pondering these deep thoughts of life, I wonder……

This is actually highly relevant to Illinois basketball.

Brad Underwood served as an assistant with former South Carolina coach, Frank Martin at KSU.

Mike Anderson, head coach of St. John's, coached at Arkansas during the same time that current Illinois football coach Brett Bielema coached there. Therefore Anderson is friends with Bielema who is friends with Underwood. Additionally, Anderson played at Tulsa, where Bill Self coached before coming to Illinois.

And then, obviously, UC Santa Clara lost to Illinois 67-64 in the third place game of the 1952 national tournament.

If nothing else, this confirms that the world revolves around Illinois basketball.

I can't believe I looked this up, but St. John's has a significantly better national tv presence and it's not even close. If you are 17-15 and 8-11 in the Big East, a majority of your games are on FS1 and you'll even pull 4 games on Fox. Meanwhile, if you're 18-13 and 9-9 in the SEC, you're banished to the SEC Network, which I don't even know how to access tbh and you're only gonna get 2 games on normal ESPN/ESPN2. This isn't me weighing in on the prestige debate, just more shocked by how low of a profile a decent team in the SEC actually has. If you want to watch BBV, you better figure out how to access the SEC Network.

To go further down the rabbit hole, Podz will be attending Santa Clara University, a very expensive, exclusive Jesuit school, not U of Cal Santa Barbara, a public university, Broncos, not Gauchos. This kind of mistake really detracts from the high quality of this discussion.

I tend to agree with you. South Carolina has just the one recent good season. USC is really a football school historically.

ST. JOHNS: New York City. Louie Carneseca. Chris Mullen. Mark Jackson. Bill Wennington. The Georgetown, Syracuse and Villanova rivalries. And then throw Madison Square Garden into the equation too. Curbelo made the right choice. He should really shine in the big spotlight next season.
I’m not trying to get into this argument, because I would say neither are high profile, but the names you mentioned haven’t been there in 30 years or more so I think little nightlight would be more appropriate than big spotlight.

My 6’8” partner in the investment firm I cofounded was Captain of the Santa Clara 1993 team with Steve Nash that as a 15 seed beat 2 seed Arizona in the Big Dance.

SEC crushing recruiting. Arkansas, Kentucky, Auburn, Kentucky, and even LSU not going anywhere. Not to mention Florida and Alabama
