Highly, highly doubt that Grandison ever felt he'd be drafted.

As to transferring, he doesn't need a waiver (grad transfer). My 2 cents: if minutes are key, he's leaving.
Assuming Grandy still needs credits for a Master degree, would that still be relevant to him to stay around to achieve that since his future path is unclear as a salaried basketball player elsewhere?

Well done, my friend. And props for introducing a wee bit of the Scots into the thread with "macadam."

I'm tempted to start a thread concerning malapropisms. I'll open with "A shutter ran through him." 'Cause we're Midwesterners at heart and that kind of thing can happen in a tornado.
Why can’t Harry Potter tell the difference between his potion pot and his best friend? They’re both cauld ron.

He didn't say that he was one and done. He said that of all the guys on the roster he was most likely to be one and done.

Personally, I don't think anyone on our roster will be in the league for the 2023-24 season.
Yea, a lot of people are interpreting this as Tim saying Dainja is the best player on the roster. It just means he's the most likely to be one and done. The only people who are eligibile to say that are Dainja and the freshmen.

Thanks for clarifying what he said about Dain. I'll add that I think Tim Anderson has adopted BU's tendency to call just about everyone elite.

I do think Shannon has a good chance of being in the NBA for the 2023-24 season. Possibly Mayer also.

If Grandison is not going to be in the Draft, that would suggest College. There is no downside to having your name in the Draft and hiring an Agent so that you can explore your options.

If College, why not Illinois? People want to how him the door because.... true freshmen? Really?

Yep, a 24 year old guy with three years under this coach who shot 40% from 3 is absolutely going to lose all his minutes to Ty Rodgers. /s

This song plays every off season.

Meyer was a money deal and Illinois got it done.

How flippin' great is it that our NIL offer to Mayer was good enough to get him to

I am not well informed about how NIL works. When people are talking NIL offers and Illinois getting it done what does mean exactly?????
It means he likely had contact with someone from Illini Guardians before he committed. When he gave that radio interview, he said he already knew a dollar figure for what he'd likely be earning in NIL, but he wisely declined to disclose it publicly.

why does it suggest college? I believe he already has a masters degree.

I mean, if I were him, I'd probably say why not play another year, this team is going to be good. But he's 24, he's looking at 15 mpg + or -, just going to start your life could be a better idea.

If he's going Pro, there is no downside to remaining in the Draft. Even if you aren't getting Drafted, you are still able to talk with teams and stuff and it could lead to opportunities to get on a Summer League roster. Unless there is something I am completely missing, the only reason you'd ever withdraw from the Draft is to maintain collegiate eligibility.

Killing time at the Sox Cubs game on here! Lol but to me if he can make more money or close in college then why not enjoy your life in college. Your only young once. I don't think he comes back but if the money is there then why not?

I’m afraid of negative numbers. I’ll stop at nothing to avoid them.

His game didn’t fit what we became last year. He is a much better fit for this team imo. We won’t be pounding the ball inside. We’ll be attacking and throwing lobs or dumping off for dunks which is what we he does (and then also kick out 3s). Defensively he can block shots and rebound, which gets us on the break, he’s athletic so he can run too, and he’s quick enough to guard smaller guys.

Whether he’s consistent enough to stay on the court is another argument. But with what it looks like this team could be doing, I think he could have been a good option.
I suppose i can see your point. Never hurts to have extra frontcourt options. I did like the rim protection aspects of his game.

Could Grandy provide any tick at the 5?

He is 6’6” and not muscular. Don’t see that at all. Really think Goode is the largest and strongest after Hawk and Dain. Mayer taller but also not a banger. Need an addition.

I'm guessing the original poster was joking. Grandy is neither a "Big" nor a guard, which are needs 1 and 2 right now.

Grandison was the fourth option on the team last year. He is a 40% three point set shooter when he is wide open. He couldn't normally get his shot off against long athletic players. He had some good games but I don't believe he is the kind of player this staff is looking for now

Underwood LOVES what Grandy brings to the team ( heady, smart, team player, great passer, spot-up shooter, clutch rebounder, etc.) and so do I. But being a five isn't one of them. He would get minutes when the team needs stabilizing, which could be often in the early season with all the new-comers.

I would love to see him signed, along with a back up five defender. We've got room!
