Hawkins would not be starting …

More like Skyy, RJ, TSJ, Mayer, Nance

Bringing Hawkins, Dainja, Epps, Rodgers, Goode, Harris off the bench. Whoever earns the minutes.

That’s a top 5 team, I don’t care what any media outlet says.
Considering the bench + RJ was slated to be our starting 5 early in the offseason, that's not too shabby...

Agreed, I see RJ over Hawk because he is a better shooter and slasher. If Hawk could nail down his stroke from three and improve from last seasons 29 percent to the mid to upper 30s then he could have a stronger argument to challenge RJ at that spot. Regardless Hawk will player starters minutes.

I think Mayer has already pushed Coleman to the bench.... not sold on CoHawk starting at the 5.
Then who is is going to start? Are you counting on Dain, a guy that's played 9 minutes over the last two years?

As of now, we have no PF/C types other than Coleman and Dain. I'll go with the guy who has actually produced at the college level (though I agree that many here overrate his potential).

I would take Dain and your point is why we need Nance or another 5. Has Hawk really produced at the college level at the 5? Has Hawk even played 10 minutes at the 5? There were 3 guys that we're ahead of him at that position last season. As of now I see Dain as the lead option but we may get some info soon on who else could help in that role.

Yes I would be counting on Dain because he is the only person on the roster I can see defending B1G centers. As others have pointed out Underwood basically never went to Coleman at the 5. He used Kofi, Payne, and BBV before Coleman.

I must be reading things wrong then. Thought Hawk was definitely audi-5000 if he wasn't "guaranteed" a starting role.

Well he had Kofi, Payne and BBV. We don't have any of them right now. I expect Coleman will play plenty at the 5 this season, as will Dain. Both out of necessity. And if we are lucky enough to get Nance, IMO he would be considered the 4 (since that's what he wants).

most of them start with "this team's ranking is based on a returning core of..." and since we don't have a returning "core", they don't rate us.
That doesn't really work in this new world of transfers. If you're that lazy as a writer, go find another job. He received a paycheck to release that list.

As of now….Dain is the starter at the 5 over Hawkins
