Except for the fact that that was BU's answer, you may be correct.

In all honesty, I listened to the interview a few days ago again, and I believe the question was more along the lines of who was the offensive go to guy for the shot or at least the ball in his hands at the end of a game.
Here's the actual answer, not the fable you've created.

"You're gonna go RJ, I love where RJs game goes. Obviously you've got a tremendous weapon in Terrence Shannon. I love Dain Dainja and what he can do offensively.

I've got a lot of options, I just don't know which one yet."

That's BU. You know you gotta read between the lines. He's not gonna sell out on other guys in an interview. The fact that the sound "RJ" passed his vocal cords, pharynx, tongue, teeth, and lips first is all you need to know. ;)

Can’t Nance, Danja and Hawkins share the 4/5.. getting plenty of minutes…

Absolutely. And that would be the ideal scenario for us. I see no problem with Dainja and Hawk playing the 5 and selling Nance on being the 4. That doesn't mean he''d never play the 5. But I think you could legtimately promise him most of his time would be at PF.

IMO the staff should not give up on getting him.

Planning on a guy that's listed 216 or so lbs in Hawk at the 5 is not a good idea vs several quality teams. He will get killed on D. We will have to help out constantly and that will leave many good shooters open. Dain needs to be that guy or add at least a back up in the portal . Hawk was our 4th option at the 5 last year for a reason and he didn't match up when he played the 5. In spots maybe he can vs some teams but we need another true big besides Dain for the B10 and other top programs.

The only world where Nance doesn't make the team better is a cascade effect causing RJ's mins to go down. RJ is going to be a super star. When BU was questioned 1 month ago by Andy Katz ... this was after TSJ and before Mayer ... who was the going to be his go to offensive #1 option ............................

he replied without hesitation - RJ.

So if CoHawk's and Dain's mins are the only ones supplanted by having Nance, I agree with you. We have too many quick tough guys who need mins and make us so lethal.
This is quite a pivot and has nothing to do with your original post about Nance being just a decent defender defender and decent rebounder who wouldn’t be an important get. If you want to go down that route, that still doesn’t change the fact Nance makes this team better even with a potential reduction in RJ’s minutes. It is the coaches job to make the roster as talented as possible. RJ indeed does have a very high ceiling and may become a star, but that still has to be proven on the court. Right now he is firmly behind TSJ, Mayer and possibly Coleman in the pecking order. He certainly would be behind Nance as well because everyone listed has more experience and production at this level. That wouldn’t be a bad thing at all for this team, quite the opposite.

What’s the word on Butz? Should we expect to see more?
No it's, and, or Butz about it. Of the two options we have heard about, he would give us better defense and rebounding. Butz he is not going to provide much offense other than an occasional dunk.

Mickey Henn from Denver is 6-10 240 and appears to have some skills; both a face up game and some post moves. otoh, he looks a little slow and not very athletic.

BU would definitely use 1 of 2 remaining open spots for Nance, so I doubt the staff is giving up. It's interesting how quiet Pete is in going about his business. I expect it will be like Malachi Smith ... nothing ... and then boom.

The UNC chatter and buzz right now may be higher than MI, IL, and Gonzaga, but it is still very tepid. I would point out that currently UNC has only 1 spot open, and it is late in the game. They lack a solid true 4 starter, but their depth is still damn good. They have two guys that play stretch 4 that are very good and quicker than Nance. GG Jackson can reclassify before the summer ends to give UNC that solid 4 (by season's end likely better than Nance), but that would take up the last scholly. So nothing is decided. And who knows how many programs Nance is looking at ... he's in a great position.

I have a feeling he is giving Northwestern the opportunity to come up with some meaningful NIL.

Last I saw Hawk was listed at at 216lb and about the same as Mayer in weight and only an inch in height. Plus even if the team defense is improved elsewhere in that doesn't mean we wouldn't prefer to to be add a more physical presence if he we can. Hawk will be behind Dain at the 5 imo.
Hawk listed on roster as 225# for what that’s worth. The last pics I’ve seen look like he has added some muscle. Know he can’t play the same type of defense as Kofi but believe there will be a different scheme. Also worth noting that Dain has a 7’8” wingspan vs Kofi’s 7’4” so he should be a equivalent rim protector. Edey and Dickinson are primary problems but they also don’t play 40 mins. Feel more comfortable adding a backup defensive center but have no idea how the staff feels.

I don't think that's how BU will roll. Nance is only a decent defender and rebounder. He could be an important get if we used him the right way. Coach BU will have one more guy that is not the quickest -- to use in place of our already loaded team. That's a mine field he can travel. Just make certain guys like RJ , esp, and TSJ/Mayer/Ty get their same mins. You add some dimensions when Nance is in there, and you take away some when he's in there as well.

I think that to win a national championship next season we need another big besides just Dain. While there few Kofis we should know what issues a bigger guy can cause.NC , Zags, and others have bigs that will cause Dain issues let alone a 225lb Hawk.

Are you saying we have guards like them and that that played together with a big as long as them?. Also to you remember Sean May? He isn't that big even. We need a physical big. I feel our team is a top 15 team but a true big close to Kofi would be a huge issue for anyone 225lbs. We need another true big guy besides Dain.

We do need another Big. That said, Hawk definitely qualifies as a big as well as Dain.

Look around college ball . Hawk, at 6’10 225 is pretty typical size for a 5. And he’s a very good rebounder. Defensively, he may have difficulty w guys like Edey. But most bigs aren’t like Edey. And Edey defensively might have a hard time w Hawk.

Hawk surely qualifies. I thought we want to win it all and learn from experience. As good as Augie was May and the officials killed us. We need even a role player at the 5.

May didn't have to be that big. He had three zebras to protect him.

And I agree. The staff has to be looking high and low for a capable PF/C. Fwiw I just can’t see them leaving 2 rides open. It would be foolish cause you usually have a guy or two out for whatever reason and you never know how FR, even highly touted ones, are going to adjust to college ball.
