Dating myself but his body type and way he moves reminds me of Brian Cook.

We can only dream he will stay 4 years, develop into an AP All American and have a 10 year NBA career.

I like the fact he is left handed.

My Mom had to go to C/U for work when I was little, and went to the athletics department and somehow got me a Brian Cook autograph lol. I of course still have it.

Apart from Amani, who else are top priorities for the staff in 2023? I like Watson's game, but If they prefer Amani I'm good with that.

It's pretty obvious we are after Amani over Akil or a reclassified Thomas Haugh ... but that may be similar to the Mayer/Nance thing. Get the first guy that commits that we really like. Pretty certain we see something additional in Hansberry, especially things like fit and character. Since we haven't got a single 2023 commit yet, that could get the ball rolling.

Perrin moves very well for a big man. Made some nice passes . One of the advantages of late growth spurt. He was not pigeonholed in to only playing the in paint.

I would have liked to see his outside jumper.

[My very uninformed impression]
Agree. He's very young and I don't see him as physically for the BIG, but he had some nice passes and shows overall skill. I don't think he'll contribute this year if everyone's healthy, but injuries and disruptions seem to have been the norm the last few seasons. Having another guy who can play center, even if it's in a pinch or when we have foul trouble, could get them through a couple games this year. I expect he has a lot to learn defensively.

Looked up his stats, which are impressive: U21 Team

Welcome Mr. Perrin! Not only adds depth, but talent! Appears to have the ingredients to be a high caliber B1G player in the not too distant future.
Remember when we couldn't recruit anyone decent outside of Illinois? We aren't just nationwide, we're worldwide!

Agree on the not likely ready sentiment, but looks like he could give us minutes here and there as needed. I didn’t watch that much tape on him, but what I noticed is that he is a willing passer, seems to have good hands around the basket, and I did see a pretty drop step move in the post that leads me to believe he has good feet too. Looking forward to seeing him develop. Nice job staff.

I will be surprised if this kid does not play a lot and maybe start this year. Watch his highlights. He is tough and just won the MVP award for the 21 and under pro league. I love his skill set and aggressiveness. You guys are used to the Illini getting projects over the years. This kid is no project. I will be shocked if he stays more than 2-3 years. Chet Holmgren is one inch taller and only weighs 195 lbs.

Offers from UCLA, Texas, Memphis, BYU and Florida certainly mean we had to beat out some legit programs to get him. Very exciting, guess I'll be watching some Euro U18 FIBA action in about a month.
Anyone have a sense of the quality of play in that league?

You never know who might leave in 2023 due to playing time

Omar Payne and Podz only stayed one year. BBV and Andre transferred after 2 years. Hutchinson really never played.

TSJ and Mayer are NBA bound
If Skyy has a good freshman year I bet he goes to NBA (ready or not)

My guess is this is the new every year norm
- bring in 3 transfer portal (Dain, TSJ, Matt)
- bring in 5 HS freshman (Skyy, Ty, Sencire, Jayden, Zacharie)
A Fab 5 Illini-style??

Welcome, Zacharie, to the United States as well as the Illinois Basketball family. You’re joining an excellent program with phenomenal coaches and facilities while also getting a world class education. Illini Nation is excited to see you don the Orange and Blue.
