I have though about the 1990 Illini what ifs? Nick stays, Smith does not have the academic supension, and Deon plays? What might have been?I miss kids coming to Ilinois and developing over 4 years.
You wonder if we would have a National Title if
Nick stays - we only lose Lowell and Kenny
Deron stays - we only lose Roger
Ayo stays - we only lose Adam
Offers can be made from the golf course, I have heard in the pastsweating out that Carolina offer:
We'd have lost both Roger and Luther in 05-06. We'd have been good but not sure if NC good.I miss kids coming to Ilinois and developing over 4 years.

I, too, hate when we help kids attain their dreams ahead of schedule.I miss kids coming to Ilinois and developing over 4 years.

The WORST. It would be AWFUL to see a bunch of NBA players that only spent 1-3 years at UIUC, just thinking about what they could have been...I, too, hate when we help kids attain their dreams ahead of schedule.
2023 recruiting - imho tiered order of probability of landing
Jazz Gardner - C - Chester
Amani Hansberry - PF - Chester - OV 06-28-22
Jelani Hamilton - SG - Chester
Trent Pierce - PF - Chester
Akil Watson - PF - Geoff - OV 12-10-21
Xavier Booker - PF - Tim
Just give us one of the first two. Both and I'll be ecstatic. Going to be a small class.
Clouseau is on the case!

After reading the evaluation, the most extensive I have seen in 75 years, I am convinced it was written either by his coach or his father. Nevertheless, if accurate, he is without a doubt a top 5 player in the country, maybe the best, and maybe the best ever! Also, if accurate, and I assume it is somewhat fudged because there is nothing that does not indicate superiority in almost every facet, he may be the best Illini player ever. Please read the "may be" in that statement and rest assured that I am as skeptical as anyone on the complete accuracy of the eval. But in the end, I would feel all warm and fuzzy if Amani Hansberry was to become convinced that he wants to be an "every day guy" and reach for the stars in Orange and Blue in Champaign. What I like most about this is that he seems to be an elite shooter in the paint...something missing from the Ilini front-court for decades. I am hoping Hawk, Dainja, Mayer, and RJ can change that next season. What a glowing evaluation. Say less, I'm sold.

I still think it was Henson's polite way of parting ways. He projected to have 2 rides available for 1985. Lowell Hamilton was committed. Ben Wilson would not commit until spring. Henson could not know Shafer was going to transfer.I can’t imagine a modern day scenario where a recruit would be asked to redshirt. That’s an open invitation for the recruit to immediately consider the transfer portal.
Where was this?sweating out that Carolina offer:
True, but in those days teams had 15 scholarships to work with. It wasn't possible to find playing time for that many guys.I can’t imagine a modern day scenario where a recruit would be asked to redshirt. That’s an open invitation for the recruit to immediately consider the transfer portal.
Horton also had some disciplinary problems while attending a U of I camp. And of course, we thought our chances of getting Wilson were good.I still think it was Henson's polite way of parting ways. There were also the other issues others have mentioned. Lou could point to the interior depth, suggest redshirting, and let Ed Horton make the decision.
Where was this?
