So how do the transfer portal changes affect Underwood’s plan to save a ride for mid season transfers? I mean kids can still transfer, they just have to sit a year correct? Mid season guys are already basically missing a season already.

Still immediately eligible on first transfer. Have to sit a year on second transfer. So really doesn’t affect mid year transfer as long as it’s their first one.

Don't they have to wait for the 60 day transfer window in the spring to enter the portal under the new rules? i.e., can they still transfer midyear and gain valuable practice time with the new team during the second semester, or under the new transfer regime do they have to wait for the designated window after the brackets are released in March to enter the portal and move on to a new team?

Not an expert, but as I read their description of the new process it seems they are trying to limit portal entry to that 60 day window absent unusual circumstances (head coach firing or pulling of scholarship benefits, both of which are unlikely to occur mid-season).

That’s the part I was wondering about too. I should have been more specific in my original post, so thanks for raising the question.

"The Illini have a commitment from Amani Hansberry, ranked No. 118 in the Rivals 150."
:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
I have no problem with the ranking. Given that the article says he’s not a one-and-done and were very complimentary, in part the ranking may reflect that he’ll be in college for a few years to develop. I have no problem with him spending 2 to 4 years in the Orange and Blue.

No. I think the real nice thing is that he can hit the ground running AND potentially stays for 3-4 years.

Given how he performed this past summer and the skill level Amani displayed, 118 is absolutely ridiculous. Hopefully he uses it as fuel to fire his performances once he arrives.

This rankings stuff needs to stop, look at Jaden Ivey at Purdue and Keegan at Iowa. Rankings are not the end all be all, and there is a reason that these evaluators at rivals, 247, etc. Are not employed by the blue bloods you can realize that it’s up to staffs to find the gems

It's not the reason you suggest. Evaluating talent is one thing. Getting talent to come join your program after you've identified it is a completely different animal. You'd have a better analogy if you used NBA scout as the example, but then I would have to say that I am willing to bet that many recruiting "analysts" get paid more than most NBA scouts.

Not sure if this was sarcasm or not so I'll bullet point it to avoid word soup again. But the bottom line up front was that there are multiple reasons recruiting analysts on subscription sites are not employed as actual scouts, and it's not necessary due to lack of talent assessment ability.
  • College assistants not only have to identify talent, but recruit it and train it, too.
  • NBA scouts don't have to recruit, but they aren't terribly well-paid.
  • Pay site recruiting analysts likely get paid enough that being an NBA scout isn't not a strong draw even if they were good enough.

I'm sure some of those pay site writers/evaluators are good enough to be paid by some kind of team and I'm sure some aren't. But I also know that NBA scouts generally get paid pretty poorly so there's little incentive for someone like Eric Bossi (just as an example) to make that jump even if he were good enough.

But most important of all is that I'm just procrastinating and none of this matters.

I converted to the Church of Offer Lists many many years ago, and have found salvation.

Repent, ye rankings carers.
I still pay attention to rankings but agree offers are usually a better indicator. Rankings are good for judging whether players are trending up or down, and I think are also more accurate the higher ranked you get. One example is JJ Taylor. Just looking at his offer list tells you he's very talented. But take a look at his recruiting ranking, and the downward trend in said ranking, and it tells you there's something to be concerned about.

All data points are useful, as long as you use them correctly.

When your offer now holds the weight of “he has an offer from XXXX school, therefore he must be good” then it may skew that viewpoint. 😬

(I look at offer lists as well)
