After reading the posts regarding ZZ"s decomitting I concur.....Best of luck to the young man....was looking forward to seeing him in Illini uniform, but if that's not best for him ...I may not understand, but sure can't hold it agains't him for looking at other options. I would hope that in any recruitment with this coaching staff that something like this would take place in talking and making an offer to a recruit......We (Illinois) really like your game....we think you have the right make up both physically and mentally to become a very good player for the University of Illinois...we'll do the very best we can to help you become better (insert asst. coaches & Fletch, etc) and get you to the next level if that's what you desire....in doing this we're going to do what's best for the team and the basketball program and hopefully that will be what's best for you as well....we're going to recruit the best players available to us...if you're not comfortable with that..talk to us....we're going to be honest and upfront with you....no one comes into this program with "guaranteed" playing time or roles...you have to work and earn that....if we recruit or offer a player that you feel may effect your playing time or your role, we're sorry, but as we said we're doing what's best for the program and hopefully that will be what is best for you as well. If you feel it's in your best interest to look at other opportunities during this process we will understand, and if you do indeed decide to move on, we just ask that you be honest and up front with us as well....whether you're and Illini or not we wish you the very best and will do our best to help you achieve your goals. Here at Illinois we're about becoming the one of the very best basketball programs in the country....and that means helping young men become the very best that they can become, whether in an Illinois uniform or not, you have our support and best wishes

I think we should just thank ZZ and wish him the best .... and keep our mouths shut beyond that.

Speculating, either positive or negative, with respect to either ZZ or the Illini is still only speculation (my tautology for the day :)) that may unnecessarily offend the Clark family or demonstrate what a ham-handed fan base we are to other recruits.

I trust BU and staff 100% to make the best of the situation no matter what the underlying circumstances may be.
Wait. You read people’s tattoos?

3 years ago he was seen as a future 1 and Done, or even potential prep to pro if it was allowed. Now, probably not as he's fallen amongst his class and then fell a lot more after injury. But of course, theoretically possible if he has a monster season and/or flashes big time.
Is this due to him being one and done regardless, or is there an expectation he will get drafted? I am not that clued into the draft scene, but I haven't seen his name in any of the mock drafts I have come across

Remember when people were worried when Reggie Bass and AJ Storr decommitted, Jeremy Fears committed to MSU, Kylan Boswell committed to AZ
Reggie Bass was a pretty clear "only had a conditional offer" kinda guy. You don't de-commit just to wander in the abyss for a long time and eventually be a late(r) signer with Central Michigan.

By the time ZZ would have came here it seems the NBA will have got rid of the 1 year after highschool rule. He's just getting ready.

Yep, if we are going to compete for a national championship, it's going to happen before 2024.
Not sure what you mean by this. No reason to think that with recruiting going as well as it has been and the transfer portal that Illini won’t compete for a national title in 2024 or beyond. And I won’t even mention the use of the word “if.”
