6'5" guard at his age is ridiculous.
For certain. But with his shot, he could be a great 3 or 4 someday. Keep working the handles, get in the weight room, and enjoy eating. When I was his age, no one on earth had his skills at his age with his size.....but that was over 50 years ago. Most guys at 6'5" played center and were told not to dribble, let alone let it fly from 25. The elite shooters of the day were 6'2" or less.

And then along came Larry and Magic and the game went to the birds.

Unfortunately, with a nuanced pass, dribble, shoot, skill set, he will likely be passed over by almost all college coaches who have no idea what that means. Add in that they are mutually inclusive and for certain it will scare them all away.

Great that the Illini hold his last visit....hopefully he'll make it to Nov. 4th
I would think the only road bump is North Carolina... He's not going to commit to MST and miss an opportunity at UNC and he's not going to commit to Norte Dame without seeing what UofI has to offer. UNC should be the only school to sway him to commit asap.

You’re going way back. Lol. 10 years before Magic, there was 6-5 point guard Pete Maravich. Best ballhandler and passer in my time as a fan. Ask Larry Bird about him. Oh, and he is still college basketball’s all time leading scoring despite only getting 24 regular season games, only three seasons, no shot clock, no three point line, one free throw on common fouls. 44.5 for his career. Never played a minute at center at 6-5. Lol

Heck, Illinois’ centers in the 60s were guys like 6-10 Skip Thoren. In the 50s, all time Illini great Red Kerr was 6-10 and went on the be an NBA all star.

There was a noticeable difference in style of play in the 50s and 60s. By the mid-60s, the game was more of the modern game we know. Rick Mount, a 6-4 guard from Purdue, is still the best shooter not named Curry that I’ve seen. Any angle, any distance for him. Heck, 7-2 Kareem played college in the 60s and was still a force in the NBA when Magic, Bird and Jordan came along.

Your Maravich-Bird comment made me think of this disagreement between the two when they both wore green.

Maravich: “Larry, Larry they’re double-teaming you man. You can’t be forcing up those shots like that.”

Bird: “If you were any damn good they wouldn’t be double-teaming me.”

(The competitive 🔥 fire…ya gotta love it!)

Obviously there was mutual respect between the two. The Pistol said the Bird was the best in the game…and Bird thought Maravich’s dribbling was off the charts…especially years later.

Yes, Pete was at the end by then. Devastating knee injury and age had caught up to him. Before the knee injury, he was a superstar who had led the NBA in scoring.

I remember Pistol Pete but I couldn't remember what happened to him after basketball. A tragic ending but at least he was doing what he loved.

"He died suddenly at age 40 during a pick-up game in 1988 as a consequence of an undetected heart defect." Wikipedia

I remember watching Pistol Pete as a kid...the long hair, baggy socks, and his unconventional passing not to mention his shooting made him a house hold name among college basketball fans...remember his knee injury that pretty much ended his career, but had forgotten the heart attack that claimed his life...sad ending for a great player

So you're saying we could have Kedall Gill's and Carmelo Anthony's son in Illinois uniforms at the same time. These big ten guards best work on their tight handles.
It was fun when MJ was attending our games. Shame his son Jeff did not have his fathers skills size or athleticsm. MJ wore this shirt at Maui invitational. It immediately went on 6 month backorder.

combes , thank you for those words about Pistol Pete M. and Rick Mount......................Pistol Pete was a magician right in front of you ......No boxes or curtains , but his sleight of hand with the basketball had me asking myself "" How in the h*ll did he do that ""........I hated the Southeastern Conference because of Kentucky but I would watch it when it was on Saturday afternoon's just to watch Pete.......,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I watched a Bio video on Pete and it brought home to me the pressure he had on his shoulders...........44.5 ppg................wow...............think about that with , as combes stated , no 3 pter's and the FT deal..............

Unreal , just like Rick Mount's shooting ability.............The dude would get the ball and weave his way down the sidelines till he was close to the true corner shot , do a fake on the defender , turn his back to the defender , then turn around and shoot as he was falling out of bounds and was NEAR a dead eye dick there probably over 80 % on that shot for a career.................cross halfcourt and he was in range and usually made it ........Had a lot of 50 + point games ...I don't remember if he did against us and too buzzed right now to look...................Put it this way he could have been a millionaire just shooting horse across the nation.............................

BTW , I went to the dispensary earlier today and got some "" Popcorn Heady Betty "" flower..............WOW , it's good.......It really really is...............
