1- We're comparing a borderline HOF NBA player to a borderline NBA player...to a top 60 high school Jr. Never change Loyalty.
2- EJ really only stepped up his D his final year...his defensive win shares were still less than the human turnstile Drew Timme every year.
3- I'll take a player that compares reasonably with a 2x all B10 Player any day.
4- I think MJj's game is distorted by Rita's lack of polished wings & guards, so what we see today is a work in progress.
You know how they have the NBA comparison for College players during draft time? I was just applying that to the question about differences between Liddell and Johnson. The person asking the question hasnt seen both play in high school, but I have. 6 8 or 6 9 player with a developing jumpshot, that has some lowpost moves that does the Bobby Brown jaw when he dunks on you sounds Shawn Kemp like to me.. lol

St. Rita has a guard who Illinois has offered. Melvin Bell. Unfortunately, he is still recovering from injury and did not play.

Back in the day, Westinghouse had a team with Eddie Johnson and Mark Aguirre, two future college and NBA stalwarts. However, the team lacked good guards and couldn’t get the ball up court in a state tournament loss. Eddie and Aguirre were neutralized.

Reminded me a bit of Morez and Brown last night.
Ahhhh you date yourself mi amigo I remember that team and the game in question they were a year apart in class but the same age. Aguirre allegedly would not consider the illini because he did not want to play with Eddie anymore did not want to play in his shadow. I do not think he would Mark was a bad dude with unlimited range just as Eddie was. They would have coexisted well at UI in my opinion

Comparing him to a 4x All NBA, borderline HOF player when he's ranked ~60 in his HS class is objectively funny.

More interestingly, I do wonder if he would benefit from JB going elsewhere. He could end up like Terrance Williams in Hunter Dickenson's shadow for 7 years...

He probably would benefit. Rita's front line might be bigger that the Illini front line. They both linger around the basket and basketball has morphed into a perimeter orientated game. They might do better apart where they could be the one post player.

This is something I've been thinking about. Since it's a bit slow on this thread IF we get Brown to go with Morez, how do we see Brad adjusting our strategies to accommodate both of them? Have to imagine we are selling them both that they will at least be playing starters minutes early in their tenure. Seeing as this year's team seems to be Brad's "ideal" team composition of having shooters at most positions and switching everything on D, how is that going to look if we have two near 5-star posts on the team?

If we've learned anything about BU, it's that he isn't stuck in one style of play. He wants his teams loaded with talent, versatility, toughness, and winners. The style and how everything fits gets fine tuned once they get on campus.

I think it's time for JW to give BU one of those lifetime contracts and lock BU up for life.........He deserves it in my opinion by the results on the court , and the way he conducts himself in front of the media and all other areas as the coach , as a truly great representative of the University of Illinois...........

Seems premature to me to discount Dain, Hansbury, and Perrin and assume it is Brown and Morez as frosh.

I was thinking this same thing. In his first couple of years it was kind of a fullcourt press, then he went to a packline defense where they would just settle back playing defense and you can take it in to big Kofi if you want, now they are doing a different style. He is showing that he can adjust well due to the personnel that he has. He has athletes and does not have a lumbering big man, they are switching everything now too.
