Certa couldn’t guard his shadow but agree kid can shoot
So basically Epps with a better attitude? Would you rather him watch play for Iowa / Wisconsin?

Well, I think that pretty much invalidates anything he ever says again. The cubs win one after more than 100 years and their fans think they are the Yankees.
Well I am niether a cards or cubs fan. That said the Wrigley's didn't wanna commit. Since the Ricketts bought the team each has one. I will say Cardinal fans are much more annoying to listen to at least in Peoria. I don't see either winning one for a while. With owners that want to commit to win either could happen. That wasn't the case before 2009.

I more concerned about Illini hoops no matter what time of year it is. I hope we can land a big time transfer soon and both of you can be fired up about that.

If Cole Certa is actually 6-4 and 165, he could be benefit from time with Fletcher.

And he does that by winning games. Would Hunter help us win games? If he believes the answer to he yes, then he would be doing the program a disservice by not at least inquiring about his interest.
One would have to weigh a players physical abilities or characteristics as well as mental, off court, and team chemistry issues in determining if that player would help the team win games and championships. I think sometimes coaching staffs answer the first part of that question with a resounding yes and say come on board ….we can figure out a way to manage the later part ….have no way of backing this up…but ….I’m guessing that managing the later part often turns into more work than it’s worth…JMO

I for one am more worried about next year’s team than I have been in a number of years. No known leaders/ scorers coming back. No outstanding help on the way (except freshman) we will struggle to score and play defense against big boys. Not sold on Dain.
We need at least four additions to beef up our scoring and this year proved how difficult it is to maintain chemistry.

We need … HELP! And he must come back!

Cole Certa of Bloomington Central Catholic has been named Pantagraph area POY. No surprise there. His high school is about 6 blocks from my house. I've had the pleasure of watching him several times. He's an absolutely lethal 3 pt. shooter with length. There may not be a better shooter from distance in the entire country. And his head is on straight. We want him bad, but so do a boatload of other programs at the highest level. He likes Illinois. It's probably fair to say he wants to wear the orange and blue. We must not let this guy get away. I know Underwood and Alexander have been to many of CC's games. Let's lock him up and the sooner the better.
I personally don’t think he’s a take in the portal era. Yes we need shooters but you can find guys who have actual results at the college level much easier now. Let another lower program develop him and if he’s good he’ll probably transfer anyway

You sound like someone who sees the foundation of a house under construction and says “that doesn’t look like a house!! Where are the walls??? Where’s the roof??? It’s just a hole in the ground! That wont keep out the rain!!!”

Everything’s going to be alright

I'd take him if staff were confident they could turn him into Shawn Harrington by his junior year, maybe even with a red shirt, but I haven't seen enough of him to say whether he's B1G material.

Funny thing, the discussion here caused me to search for video on YouTube and watch some of the 2A State Championship highlights... and I can distinctly hear someone in the background saying at the 8:25 mark, "He can shoot, he can't guard nobody." Appears to be a consensus opinion. 😁

Epps athletically could guard people….he just made a ton of scouting report errors. Honestly yes

Better attitude than Epps? I loved Epps. Seemed to just put his head down and play.

Go look at why Certa got a technical against UHIGH. One slip up like that in the Big 10 and he’ll be picking up his teeth off the court.

Pass.

I was curious about his defense over the course of the season because I remember him winning the 1 on 1 tournament before he came to UofI. No matter how good you are offensively you have to play some defense to win those.

I am hoping that the fire that Hawkins has shown this post-season might be the beginning of him finally seizing the leadership mantle, but he may or may not be back so it may not matter.

Goode seems like a pretty solid bet for leadership skills, though. It's just hard to lead when you sit the first 2/3 of the season. It's still too early to know one way or the other on the freshmen.

Epps has a ton more offensive game lol
I forgot the /s, but we are still talking scorers who are defensively challenged, albeit the details are different.

Anyway, I thought one of the strengths of this staff was player development.
