Plus I thought aaeismacgychel is a stats guy, worked with Ken Pomeroy on a website of some kind ? ...

I think the problem with the analysis is simply extrapolating similar results for someone with similar size and stats regardless of the fact there are so many different variables involved, from quality of opponents, differences in teams around them, and differences in immeasurables such as attitude, system fit, and whether each player has come close to hitting their hypothetical ceiling in abilities and skill development. It's impossible to account for so many different variables, so cutting and pasting same differences in stats based on "x player did this at low major and then x at high major", is simplistic at best, and foolish at worst.
Only one person said his game reminds him of Derwin Williams. But no one was compared to a hall of Famer. You extrapolate put a bunch off of one mention.
Body type and strength remind me of AJ Hoggard (Mich St), but with better skills (love the lane one handed floater and pivot 10 footer). My one concern is his foot speed, will he be able to D up faster guards.I am MUCH more excited about possibility of RayJ after these highlights

I get the RayJ and Andre comparison. They both were very effective in penetrating into lane and scoring close to the basket with clever moves.
However - Andre had 1 good season then fell off a cliff the past two. I assume it is mostly concussion related. Andre loved to go 1 on 5 and play hero ball. He also had serious attitude problem when things went wrong in year 2 and at St. Johns.
I think RayJ has 4 years of steady improvement and is already 22 years old. He Will he be able to excel at B10/p5 level? I don't think he has to be 20 ppg scorer but I would love 12 ppg and 6 apg.
Jacob Grandison avg 9 ppg and 13 ppg at Holy Cross then started for 2 years at Illinois with equivalent ppg.

Lol I didn't see the Derwin Williams comp but that kinda proves my point, which was - it's common for people on Loyalty to compare players and recruits to former Illini and NBA greats. That's not what OP did. OP actually did some research and found a player with an uncannily similar profile to RayJ.

However, that is not really how statistical analysis works. Because OP is saying he IS Carlick Jones. What is RayJ has more of that DAWG (LOL) in him? What if his teammates are better than Jones?

lotta old school to his game. love it. having the ability to hit floaters (at ostensibly a reasonably high percentage) is a great weapon. the biggest question, by far, IMO, is how will he fare against better athletes/defenders? (in some cases, much better defenders).
At this point it looks like trades: Harmon for Epps, Domask for RJ, Q for MM.
possibles: RayJ for Skyy. Pretty sure this would grade out pretty positively. Only question in my mind would be Harmon for Epps.
Big unknown is the return of Hawk and TJ. Probably different from most of the board in that Hawk would be my first choice because his defense is more difficult to replace than TJ’s offense IMO.
In addition we have the improvement possibilities with Dain, Ty, Sencire, and Luke (because he is available).
If both Hawk and TJ return there is no question imo that we will be a significantly better team. If one or both leave it is open to argument. Think the addition of a PG will make us a better offensive team in any case. Hawk would be a huge loss defensively as well as RJ and AJ. Would need Dain to make huge improvements in order to offset.

I would love just seeing a team with a clear sense that everyone on the floor knows the play, understands their roles, and is willing to do them. Not sure RayJ can solve all of that, but being decisive, a clear leader, and possessing the ability to read the defense and his teammates to deliver a pass on time and on location would be glorious. I'm not sure if it's an indictment of the players or the coaches, but last year was infuriating with how lost we looked, even at the end of the season. The players were clearly frustrated, and I'm sure the coaches were. If EVERYONE was frustrated with it, why did it continue? I know that identifying a problem is not the same as solving it, but it should at least lead to trying something else.
How quickly the new PG -- let's call him Ray -- learns and connects with the team, and gains their trust that they should follow his lead, will mean everything.
This conversation is so ridiculously dumb. Literally said his game is a POOR MAN’s DWill. Was simply contrasting that to the Curbelo comp. Gee whiz!!! This board is glorious.
I didn't read it as being quite that definitive. But, yeah, to your point, RayJ has never been on a team as talented as this one. That could absolutely raise his level of play. I'm just hoping for a point guard who can run the offense and set his teammates up for success.
XJ got a medical waiver yesterday so they have their PG for next season.
