Of course….I want to see growth from all players including CH. That’s why we are talking about getting older.

I think a lot of his misses were bad shot selection due to the fact we had zero ball movement and he'd end up with the ball with 5 sec on the clock and have to do something. I think he could be a successful low-volume 3P guy who takes it in rhythm.
NBA good? I am very optimistic however to be a first rounder he needs to show more. We tend to be overly optimistic as fans. When was the last time an Illini was drafted as expected? Meyers most likely? We have had two all Americans not taken in the first round or taken as expected I hope TSJ and Hawk are drafted one day but I just don't see that happening realistically in a spot were its good forthem if at all. Its tough to be one of the top 40 or so prospects on the planet. I hope they get good info and listen to it. I want whats best for them first n foremost.

Sorry, that doesn't cut it for me. You have a chance to bring in either a backup vet or, my preference, a young guy willing to learn and perhaps even take the keys next year. That's not "oh well" that's a missed opportunity.
Not anymore when you could replace him with a more experienced/better player in the portal next year. I don’t see the kid playing much this year. That being said, I hope he stays, develops and does contribute in the future if he doesn’t this year. We don’t need to hand out minutes just so kids don’t leave though. Also, let’s be honest, his history has created the speculation he would just leave, and it’s real.

Can you blame them? They keep telling us the news, but most keep arguing about playing time for incoming freshmen, or who has the best cheeseburger, or other sandwich. Nobody has even talked about the Horseshoe, Philly Cheesesteak, Cuban, Prime Rib, etc. etc. etc.

I am literally up to 26 people blocked, lol
It's Darcy's Pint. I won't even hear any argument otherwise.

I've never suggested that we should be handing him minutes. In fact, quite the opposite. I've been vocal forever about the ridiculous calls to not "recruit over" kids. It needs to be the constant effort of the staff.

So the goal for the staff should in part be to find players that are willing to put in the time and effort to develop. When the staff inks someone who bails before their first game, that's a failure, in my eyes, not "oh well".

As to the constant replacement through the portal, time will tell how effective it will be.

I'm from the South Side too. Southeast Side specifically. If I didn't go to Ignatius, I wouldn't follow them either.

And Barron was on campus for an unofficial at Illinois but they never offered. He signed with George Mason, but their coach left so Providence swooped in. He's a big-bodied 6'6 wing.
To be fair, Kim English (yes, Missouri Kim English) was the coach at George Mason and he became the coach at Providence when Cooley left for Georgetown. English is a great recruiter. Spent several years on Rick Barnes staff at Tennessee.

You have 13 roster spots. You build the best team. Not everyone is going to play. What’s your solution, we only sign 8 or 9 guys who can actually play?

Also, I haven’t seen anyone say the kids is going to bail before the first game. He may understand he needs to develop a year or may be coming in confident he’s going to play. He may be fine with that or he may not be….and he could change his mind mid year, none of us know.

The portal is here. Constant replacement through the portal is happening in every program. Transferring has been around a long time and we’ve had plenty of successful transfers and plenty who have flamed.

It seems like you want recruiting/college basketball to go back to the way it was in the 60s or 70s or something.

I’m glad we are bringing in good players in the portal. I do wish we were in on more multi year transfers to reduce roster churn. Shannon coming back would be really nice.

this time next year we are looking at 80% of the team leaving again.
