I'd definitely take DMFW! I'd consider Frankie...we need DMFW leadership and willingness to do whatever is asked more than we need Frankie.

Lmao! Well....I'm 97.82% positive I coined "DMFW" here during a game thread...so that should tell you how much I love that dude. One of my all time faves.

But....let me see if I can say this in a friendly way....I'll give you 5 DMFW's to my 1 Frankie and 4 dudes from my local YMCA pick up games....and I'll win every game.

That's how bad your take is.

- Cannot create his own shot
- No mid range game.
- gets blocked too easily when he drives to hoop.

Is it opposite day or should my sarcasm meter be going off? Hadn't been on today and then I see these things posted. Assuming sarcasm?

I know….I’ve been shaking my head and rolling my eyes for the last 5 pages. The guy was 1st Team All Big 10, averaged 17.2
Pts, 4.6 reb, and 2.8 assists and people don’t want him back. Insane.

Not only that, the guy gave everything he had for this team. His hustle was off the charts.

Also, Da'Monte was great, but anyone that would take him over his dad has never seen his dad play. Or possibly has a really bad memory.

Wait a minute… wait a minute.
Circle…. Circle?
Circles are round!
Round… round?
Round is a type of beef!
Beef… beef?
There’s a restaurant called The Beef House in Indiana!
Indiana… Indiana?
Indiana is one state over from Illinois!

That means RayJ Dennis is going to commit to ILLINOIS!!

Indiana is also... checks notes... one state over from Michigan. I hope your tea leaves are blowing west and not north.

That's funny because I read it as he's readying himself for one last ride in Champaign. If you're leaving college for good, post a video with all your highlights from both Tech and Illinois. If you're trying to build the hype on your return and get Illinois fans to buy more of your merch, post a video of only your time at Illinois. I guess we'll see how it plays out in a few weeks.
I love tsj. I got 2 different jerseys of his. I want him back badly so I hope you’re right 🤞

To bad we can’t get a combo of DMFW’s heart and his Royal Frankness’s talent….. Frankie was seldom playing at peak effort.
That would be a frightening legacy to unleash on an unsuspecting NCAA!
It would have been great to see ... But I can guarantee, we'd only have seen it for 1 year. Those unicorns usually go in the lottery, and near the top at that. Shoot, Frankie was a first rounder without peak effort. To be fair, seeing the man in person on many occasions, he did have a special way of making it "look" effortless.

Mid range jump shots are so inefficient that basically nobody shoots them anymore.

Dude shot 28% from 3 and only 61% from the line last year. He needs to play to his strengths of getting to the basket and into the lane.
I think this is one of those things that gets repeated a lot but isn't necessarily true. It is true that teams are shooting less midrange shots than before but it's still an important area of the floor. I would rather a player take an open 12 foot shot than take 2 more dribbles into traffic for a contested layup, for example. It seems like last year we had no guys who were willing or capable of doing that on a regular basis.

Here are a few varying shot charts from last year. Some teams, like us, do focus heavily on layups and threes (look how similar our shot chart is to UConn) but that's not a universal strategy.

Great post.

What I'd be curious about is whether those teams with those strong mid range games have one or two players excelling there and an offensive strategy that plays to it.

1. Cool charts
2. Shows you that Dainja was really efficient, and while other individual players may also have been, we were bad as a team literally everywhere else.

This is the website. I think it's awesome. You can look at individual players. I really hope our coaching staff, and really any coaching staff has data like this. If the link brings up what I had selected, it shows Grant Nelson is really only effective in the paint, and on the right side of the block. Helps you know how to defend him. For us fans, it let's us see, is that guy really as terrible from 3 as I remember. Does he really only take 3s?

Great Visual Data ! Harsh reminder of just how many “weak” three’s we jacked up last year comparatively.
