Boricua Illini

Puerto Rico
St. John's won't take him back. They told him to leave. Everything I'm hearing is that he's weighing options playing professionally in South America.
The Southern Miss Golden Eagles (and specifically one of their assistants who is also from Puerto Rico) were really after him, but it appears that Curbelo prefers to explore the professional route in Puerto Rico's BSN league where Alfonso Plummer is currently playing as well as some former NBA players such as Hassan Whiteside, Brandon Knight, Tyreke Evans and others.

Curbelo has also publicly lobbied to be considered for Puerto Rico's national team for the FIBA World Cup 6th window or the Central American and Caribbean Games later this month. To my knowledge he has not been invited yet, while former Illini teammates Plummer and Trent Frazier have.

While I'm happy as heck too that we got our guys back for another year(still hoping that they get to live their dreams and play in the NBA).....there is nothing good about the portal nor NIL. Nothing. NIL I could be on board with because the players do deserve a buck for their NIL. The portal has created a yearly free agency where money is a negotiation tactic with every player. You love it because two guys returned. You won't love it if RayJ goes to Baylor because their bid was higher than ours and we're chasing plans B, C and D at the PG position....or when guys transfer for no reason other than money. Matt Mayer was a guy that we outbid everyone else on, same with Skyy. One thought getting paid gave him the NBA green light and ond bailed midseason (heck, even before that) because of playing time and hard work being a requirement.

Is Curbelo really that uncoachable that even a lower d 1 program won’t take him or is he still dealing with concussion stuff?
Who's to say a lower D1 program is more desirable than playing pro overseas?

Yesterday most of you acted as though you had no confidence in both CH and TSJ coming back. i posted three times that they were, that coleman droped from draft. and that RayJ would announce before friday that he was coming to Illinois. I'm not going to state was is not fact.

So he went through the NBA pre-draft process, worked out for individual teams and received constructive feedback. He then withdraw his name, analyzed who else withdrew/roster makeups and is now literally announcing his college decision 12 hours later.

Almost everybody: “Seems like a thoughtful young man using all the information available to make the best decision.”

Message board psychopaths: “This selfish Prima Donna is what’s wrong with college basketball in 2023. He’s playing these schools against each other to drive up his NIL. He cares more about showcasing himself than winning. I was ready to move on weeks ago. He better be good or else.”
