It does seem to be pretty open pay-to-play across college sports. I don't know how schools are working that if it is not allowed. Is there a loophole that is being used? Schools are clearly offering dollar amounts in NIL to get players to come. I would assume an eventual crackdown is coming in some fashion, because it feels a bit out of control right now.

I am in no way, shape, or form an insider hunter.. their info is really the only reason to come to this board.. and it's much appreciated

BUT I will say with this recruitment, the posts were way more than "we're in a good spot" types of posts. I understand how these things can change and it is what it is if he does indeed choose Baylor but between the "courtesy visits" posts and the numbers of GIFs insinuating 3 good things as late as yesterday seems like we were lead to believe this was more in the bag then what it was.

Hope I'm eating a big helping of crow in 53 minutes
Nothing's in the bag until it is. Always been that way in recruiting and even more so nowadays.

Our insiders have good info, but recruiting is fluid and things change.

They are 2 for 3 thus far and that's not a bad %. (And still a possibility of going 3/3).

Yesterday most of you acted as though you had no confidence in both CH and TSJ coming back. i posted three times that they were, that coleman droped from draft. and that RayJ would announce before friday that he was coming to Illinois. I'm not going to state was is not fact.

Can you imagine if after all of this we actually landed him, and the NCAA decided it was finally going to crack down on "pay-to-play" and used RayJ and Illinois as its sacrificial example?
Oh I can absolutely imagine that. Remember when they suspended Kofi for actions that were basically about to be fair game anyway? Remember Luke Ford not getting a waiver for his dying grandpa? Remember, like, any time the NCAA has a chance to do Illinois dirty? This would be pretty on-brand.

It's pretty clear it's not us at this point- thank you for the insiders on here who have been all over this one!
All they can do is report what they are hearing from our staff and their contacts at other schools - and they have been 100% accurate to date - about when the staff was feeling really strongly about RayJ - to when it got competitive with other schools, to when we countered and got back in the forefront and even as of this morning, given the staff hasn't heard anything, it almost certainly means he's not coming here (how often does a transfer not tell the staff of his decision before he announces to the world - almost never)

So thank you for keeping us informed - it's greatly appreciated!

Dip your nuggets in my staff source sauce.
Man, I have very much soured on "insiders" this year (no offense to our resident guys). My Twitter timeline is FULL of random accounts with "sources" being retweeted. There is so much disinformation, misinformation, and potentially legit information available, it will make your head spin.

Anyhoo, would be really cool to go 3/3 and add that lauded missing piece to the crew!
0440 and Lville seem like genuine dudes who aren't just looking to feed their egos with tales of grandeur. They just put out what they hear and are humble about it. The headband fellow as well.

Can I ask why there isn’t more buzz around Trey Woodbury? Better size than Dennis. Better shooter. Better rebounder. Fewer assists but still almost 5 per game. Not quite the point production but was on a better team. Doesn’t appear to be a great athlete but then again neither is Dennis.

And I admit it’s a small sample size, but looks to have been a key player on a team that made it all the way to the NIT semi finals. And just my opinion but with all the parity in CBB I think the top NIT teams from lower conferences are probably tourney worthy, and maybe more so than mediocre P5 teams that get invites.

Meanwhile (again super small sample size), RayJ went 5-19 and Toledo bowed out in the first round to what I think we would all agree was a talented but pretty dreadful Michigan team that was without Jett Howard.

Maybe doesn’t have all conference potential like RayJ but I think we have stars and we need someone to fill a role of handling the ball, initiating offense, playing solid defense and knocking down open shots. Woodbury may not win the press conference but he actually may be a better fit for what we need. Hope we pursue.

It's been mentioned previously that if RayJ doesn't go to Illinois, some grad students who aren't in the portal may decide to go in the portal for the opportunity.

Interested in this as well. If you use the 247 College Basketball Portal Search feature the options look... very slim.
I believe it's been stated we have options in the Grad transfer arena.........not sure they will be in the regular transfer portal , but i have been wrong numerous times before...........JMHO
