Yknow those aren’t bad points. He definitely had an eye for defensive talent just had no interest in being a college coach

I can't wait until August. Someone's gonna ask if we'd be better off trading Shannon, Hawkins, and Rodgers for one year of Jay Tate or T. For BU, I think "Dream" is to "Job" as "Elite" is to "Player." Seriously, I think he likes the Illinois job (but maybe not everything that goes with it - crazy fans that want to fire the winningest coach recently in B1G basketball; boosters trying to tell him who to recruit, etc.).
I understand the frustration with no "elite" PG and not pushing for Love or Krissa. However, if BU learned anything from last year, it is that chemistry and understanding roles is important. Look as PSU last year - a bunch of old guys from mid-majors that did not expect to be the number one option. That fits Harmon and Domask. He also has to be worried about getting the younger players tick - see complaints re Podz. He might also be getting tired of having to replace all 5 starters every year. So he just decides to go with Ty, Buck and DGL at PG. You all want retention - that is the price.

It seems Reeves' only option is to return to UK. It looks like he can't use credits from ISU to be a grad transfer while on UK's roster.
At this point, that's where I'm at. Ty and DGL are the horses that we're riding. If they develop, we'll be set for the next couple of years.
Another crazy stat: I *think* Coleman Hawkins is set to be the first high school recruit BU has ever had play for him for four years.
Of course, he had a few guys leave early to go pro, Trent and Damonte played for him for five years, he wasn't at OK St. long enough to cycle through a full recruiting class, and he was only at SFA for one class to cycle through (I think). So it's not to say he just pushes everyone out. It's just kind of a wild stat for a coach of BU's experience.
@Indy Illini Fan and @illini0440 have both said he couldn't guard anyone in practice.. we saw the same thing in games when he played. He wouldn't have played 30+ MPG here and scored 20 PPG like he did at Santa Clara
Three very different stories.
Mark Smith was an overrated lower tier untested top 100 Mr. Basketball. He and his parents envisioned a ball dominant lead guard. Coach Underwood was eager to indulge their fantasy. It worked fairly well against lesser competition. As the level of competition increased, Smith was eventually exposed. He was then used as more of a spot up shooting guard, but didn't shoot well.
The punitive use of exercise allegedly factored in, and he transferred someplace where he would be used right, as a ball dominant lead guard. He soon settled into a role as an off the ball, spot up shooter, accepted it, and became marginally good at it.

Jones violated team rules twice, served lengthy suspensions, dropped out of the rotation, fell behind, never caught up, and entered the portal. He was a nice player. Wish he had stayed and worked out.

Iirc, Griffin was a player with good length, but not really a good athlete. He could rebound, pass a little, and really shoot. Not much of a handle. Bad on defense. I think we used him as a stretch 4. I also recall some head issues. Like literally stepping on a fallen opponent.
He transferred to Syracuse, where they could hide him on defense in their zone. He was very inconsistent. Averaged 13 by basically scoring 22 one game and 4 the next. He got in Boeheim's doghouse late and his tick dwindled.
Recruiting wise, given the time and circumstances, I think Underwood would take all 3 again. A bird in the hand ... He had to take who he could get.
My only objection is he acted like Smith was going to be an NBA level point guard. He had to be Kidding.

Once again, our coach should be bringing in guys who want to play his style, learn under his leadership, take his coaching, and have good character. When he brings players in without those characteristics and they leave, it gives me no consolation.
It means we wasted an opportunity. I believe it was once said that scholarships are gold (maybe even F'in gold)
