I really do think Ty is skilled enough run the point. I liked him doing it in stretches last year and believe another year of development will be huge. But I really hope he’s also developed some kind of jumper to go with it.
And practice shooting FT’s.

THIS.....is an enormous concern. If you combine Ty's and Sencire's FT percentage, it's still subpar for a PG.

for saying DGL looked a “little” like D Rose in his highlight reel months ago. I’m not expecting miracles but one would be nice!!! Here’s for hoping.
There are probably also advantages in defense and rebounding IF Ty can do it.
Let's face it, IF Ty can do it, it probably is better that we go all in 100% to make it work without bringing another pt guard expecting to start that also brings other issues.
Coach U could be betting his whole job on this, so I gotta respect that a little. Hope he's right!!!
If you’re in LA, Geno’s East in Sherman Oaks is an acceptable alternative.
These are college kids. It's often not that deep. You truly don't always know what your going to get-just need to bring in talent and they have done that. There is a world where Curbelo turns into an Illinois legend. Same with Adam. Alan Griffin could have stayed. Etc.....
Brad is not a perfect coach by an stretch of the imagination.
But he has brought Illinois Basketball back from the dead. Two big ten championships. Yes last year was disappointing, but he had to overhaul an entire roster that had Kofi, Trent, Damonte, etc and still made the tourney.
The team this year brings back a ton of talent and experience, and yes the stakes are higher. More pressure on Brad and co. But the bashing of the team and even the pg situation is something that I don't understand. This team can still be really good.
And yes they can 100% make the second weekend. Enough talk about Sean Miller or any other coach until next season is over. We have a damn good squad and I'm ready to see what they can do. After last year, they have a huge chip on their shoulder. And I can tell you right now they hear the negativity and will use that

Exactly! Don’t get me wrong, I want that Sweet Sixteen like the rest of us. However, I can’t honestly say that I remembered the 2002 season (tied with four teams for first in the Big Ten and lost in the Sweet Sixteen) as this inherently superior result than the 2003 season (second in Big Ten, BTT champion and lost in the Second Round). They were both just kind of “good Illini teams that won a game or two in the Tournament.”
I guess I grew up viewing the Final Four as this epic accomplishment and everything from Second Round to Elite Eight as a progressively better version of falling short of that. I certainly never thought of winning in the Second Round as catapulting a team into this superior “next tier” up of “Second Weekend teams.”
The reason I want it so badly with Underwood is just to shut up the haters, but a “Sweet Sixteen” isn’t a prize to me the same way a Final Four or Big Ten banner is - the latter only seems like not that big of a deal because we just did it.

It's not Superior by any means. It's a decent and highly desired accomplishment, though, and we have not done it in 20 years, and Underwood has never done it in seven tries.Exactly! Coaches and programs are judged by it.
Making a S16 once in awhile is a realistic goal if you make the tourney more years than not.
The media attention and stage is huge for the players and coaches.
Don't think that our lack of success is not used against us in these recruiting battles.
Kids want to go somewhere with a chance to be on the big stage for a couple weeks- not one game.

Like everyone else, I have my concerns about our guard situation, but…
Imagine being a +/- 6-foot PG (think Braden Smith) at tip-off staring up at Ty or Terrence and thinking, “I’m going to guarded by that guy?!?”
Then later you look over at Sencire breathing fire on the sideline ready to check in and take over…

Those two teams sort of cheapened the S16 prestige for me honestly. Lol. (At least there for a while it did.) (Yes, I can be petty.)
At the same time though, it would be huge for us. And huge for Brad. He needs that damn

Earlier this spring I stumbled across some OTE (I think thats the league name) games live on Amazon Prime. I saw thia wiry looking guard tearing up the court and was kind of amazed at his skill level. Then they announced his name and I realized it was DGL, our Illini recruit. I remember thinking 'thats our new point guard'. I mentioned it here a few months ago but was told 'He isn't a point guard, and is at least a year or two away from being ready for this level.
