That was the case for a while-but he finished a lot of classes sooner than expected so the outcome looks a lot better currently.

I’d take that at this point no doubt. My concern is no pg and little time left to establish strength at that position. As a program we should not be hoping “things work out” with an experiment at that position. IMO

Well, that makes the comparison to Tennessee that you responded to even more apt. They lost ZZ mid-year and that's likely why they bowed out in the S16. Seems to be our absolute ceiling with the current roster, which I would take at this point.

The post in response to a lack of tournament success killing recruiting momentum. IMO, NCAA tournament success likely helps recruiting more than a conference tournament title, for example.

I still don’t follow the “who knows maybe it will work out” line of thinking here. Entering the season without a legitimate PG means you’re setting your ceiling at, let’s say, 7. Maybe you hit on that 7 despite it being a real long shot. Great, you dodged a 4. But if you had your PG then your floor was a 7 and you probably just whiffed on a season that should have been a 10 because before it started you accidentally shot yourself in the groin.

The other thing I don’t get, is that even if this roster totally over-performs and manages to battle through spotty and inconsistent PG play, it may be impressive, but it’s not going to a particularly fun brand of basketball to watch or follow. My god this message board is going to a raging Peshtigo fire from November to March.

Illini lose to a couple of inferior opponents on cold shooting nights
5-7 game bounce back
Oh crap, they figured out we don't have a point guard and over leverage on every single PnR and ball screen
We rebuild our offense on the fly again for the 7th time in 7 years
Bubble watch
First round bounce
Underwood takes his dream job at $NewSchool
Morez Johnson never puts on an Illinois uniform

I have been on both sides of that fence. I initially thought they would grant the waiver because it makes so much sense. Upon further review, I figured they would go by a literal reading of the rule..
