Fortunately for the Mountaineers, he's open to staying in Morgantown depending on who is named as Huggins' successor on the sidelines.

“I will still consider coming back when the new coach is announced,” Kriisa said, per Jonathan Givony of ESPN. “For now, I'm entering the portal, and want to get this figured out as soon as possible.”

Can I ask why? To be fair, I didn't watch a lot of WVU games so I'm not a fair judge. I remember him being a terrible shooter at Iowa and teams sagging off of him daring him to shoot. And it doesn't look like he's a high assist guy. Didn't rank in the top 350 players last year in assists per game. Looks like he takes care of the ball & has a good assist-to-turnover ratio. Brings toughness & D but just don't see him adding a ton.

The last part is exactly what this team needs in a PG. We have guys who can score, we need someone to take care of the ball, run the offense, and play good D.

Krissa is asking more than what TSJ is getting. Not going to happen.

Joe Ts career stats
  • PTS
    9.4
  • REB
    2.8
  • AST
    2.6
    150
  • FG%
    37.4
    I’d rather take my chances with Ty and Harris IMO

I would hope he is better than Shannon. Shannon is a very streaky shooter. If it wasn't for the UCLA game I think he would be looked at as a negative from 3
Unless he does the that crossover to his left at the top of the key. He made that shot EVERY time.

“It was a sudden, steamy and forbidden love affair between orange blooded Loyalty board members and a former black and gold clad Hawkeye. But each had what the other one needed. And they needed it badly!”

A few items...

Illinois may push for a commitment from 2025 guard Phoenix Gill. We'll see, but they like what they've seen here in June.

One reason that some don't like the Jason Jakstys offer is that they're still upset that Illinois backed off of James Brown.

Ty Rodgers is a guy who can initiate the offensive in the half court, but if they want to play fast he's not the full time point guard.

If Toussaint joins:

Max Contribution:
* he adds important experience and leadership at the PG position
* mentor to our two young guys at the position
* capable of guarding all of the opposing elite guards on our 2023-24 schedule
* 22-28 minutes per game
* 4-5 Assists per game; puts the ball in the hands of our top shooters
* 8-10 ppg

Min Contribution:
* experience/leadership/mentor
* 14-20 minutes per game
* steady dependable PG presence off the bench
* distributor of the ball

His assists per game are relatively low (ish) b/c he has never played more than 22 min/game. His assists per 40 and assist ratio are relatively good.

I'd take him in a heartbeat. It's not like he has expectations of playing 30 min/game wherever he goes. We need a ball handling guard that isn't a minus on D and can set guys up. Sure, he's got a glaring hole in his game -- lack of shooting -- but any available player right now has warts. I'd take him as the guard insurance we wish we'd had last year and, best case scenario, we need him less than anticipated. Worst case scenario = he plays a lot = our other (current) guard options are even worse than him = thank God we at least have him onboard.

I’ll preface this by saying I haven’t watched the kid play, but on the surface it sounds a lot like Sincere Harris, who is already on our roster.

Harris cannot play point guard.
I agree, but I still believe Ty would be a very good PG. Defensively-great, Weak side rebounds - Great, Push Fastbreak - great, Motor/Feel for the game - great, Shooting - OK, FT- not good yet, Bringing the Ball up the floor - ok but will need help

He shot 36% and 38% from three the previous two years. Less attempts and I am very sure better shot selection.
We took a lot of bad threes last year.
The 38% isn't really legit. He feasted on lower level competition. His soph season at 35.7% looks like his high water mark. If he could get back to that it would really improve his game.

I can live with TY sharing duties with DGL and maybe Harmon or even better Toussaint now that we have reached out.

I know I will get hammered here, but do not see very many minutes for Harris unless Harmon can't play, we get nobody in portal and DGL doesn't develop.

Much better player overall than Harris IMO.
But I am not a big fan.

i still want a real, live established point guard, but...my thought is Harris can guard a point guard, Ty can initiate the offense?
ty is a good defender, but a smallish, quick point might go right by him.
