Yes, but there is a window when the portal is open. The creates a special new midterm window for freshmen. Or a possibly unintended preseason window for incoming freshmen who enroll in summer school.

I wonder how this will work. Will they have to enter a portal? Inform their coach? Make a public declaration? This will invite more back channel tampering.

Same. I'd like to know what the rules are and the rationale behind it. Cause it sure sounds like a can of worms, lol.

Those coaches are acting in their own long term interests. They are not jumping ship at the first sign of rough seas. They are indeed committed to working hard, overcoming obstacles, and doing what is necessary to succeed. Kids who transfer to avoid those commitments are not acting in their own interests.

But the enabling quitting mid semester AKA Skyy ? I really struggle with what message that sends to our youth if the answer to anything hard in life is just to quit … But hey that’s just this old guys 2 cents …

I don't believe this will ever happen. As long as teams are associated with college's then athletes will have to be students.

(Cough) stones ...(cough) glass houses. And all that good stuff. I know 2 TAs that were "encouraged" to "reconsider" the grades they assigned to some of our student-athletes in the 90s.

How long was Underwood at his previous employer before coming to Illinois? Seems awfully similar to what players do now. Glasses houses or something

The reality is that most of these kids did not come to school to get an education. They came because it has been (not saying it is today) the most direct path to the professional ranks.

They are giving all the power to the players. This is turning into an MLB type of situation. The NCAA is akin to MLB ownership. Bending over backwards to keep players happy. It’s gotten ridiculous

Totally get it. No sense if the kid wasn’t interested. He probably had some preconceived thoughts about us since he had to play us several times. Can’t catch all of the fish in the pond.

What you described is the minor league model for MLB and the NHL. The teams will be affiliated with the university instead of a town, and will develop their own regional fan base, losing the 100+ year affiliation with the alumni base. That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it!

Mid game maybe? One of our donors walks into the opposing team's timeout with a 100,000 check?

Inevitably there are 7 guys that are going to have career games against us. If our defense can't stop them maybe our donors can.
