We're comparing a guy ranked just outside of the top 100 to a zero-star, unraked recruit? Why? Because he's tall, white, and skinny? That's about where the comparisons end.
Heck, JJ is a higher rated recruit than DGL by some services...
Because Lieb was similarly seen as a 7 foot type prospect that could space the floor and willing to redshirt. Lieb got offers from DePaul, Oklahoma, Oklahoma state, and Utah. Lieb was ranked as 3 star on on3 and rivals

Jakstys best offer outside of Illinois was Drake or Illinois state. Is also ranked as a 3 star though a higher number on On3 and 247(247 really likes him) but is unranked on ESPN and rivals.

Not saying they will turn out the same but theyre definitely a similar archetype of a lanky white kid from the suburbs that is willing to redshirt. Though you could argue Frank Kaminskys was a similar type of recruit.

Do remember that he still has a year of high school basketball left and summer to keep developing his skill set. With his shooting ability and summer workouts with Flecth I can see him getting some minutes as a stretch 4 .If you guys remember not too long ago people were discounting DGL as a guaranteed red shirt due to his lack of size.

Next years bigs Morez, Hansberry, and Dainja seem like an excellent front court. Question will be if JJ is ready to replace Dain the following year. If so it is three guys who can move and shoot. JJ just seems to be way more skilled than the project bigs.

Dain, Amani and Morez will get the minutes. I also think they will go after a big in the portal. Someone similar to Guerrier to bring in some more experience since I dont think JJ will be ready to contribute yet.

The only way I could see JJ contributing next year is at the 3 but can’t see that defensively.

They are going to. Imo they will go big name hunting for a wing and a four/five man. Will also portal for another guard as well (maybe two)

I'd have to look at the scholarship count but with Shannon and Coleman likely gone after this year I'd imagine they would be targeting length and athleticism in the portal.

I like Morez and Hansberry but could use a rim protector, then Goode and Rodgers would be the returning wings so would need to add some athleticism there and possibly a big combo guard if they have open spots.

This is Shannon's Covid year. He is for sure gone as well as Domask, Guerrier, and Harmon.

Makes sense based on Brad's portalling the past two seasons. So based on available scholarships, expecting 2 to likely transfer out?

MJ is a rim protector

Jakstys has far better coordination than a lot of kids his height. Obviously, no clue if he's gonna pan out for us, but he definitely has a chance (not a puncher's chance), IMO
He is way more coordinated than Lieb and also seems like a better shooter. Lieb was a flyer to see if you can eventually mold him into something after battling Kofi/Giorgi as Lieb was a borderline 500 type recruit while Jakstys is an early take with skill, some speed that is a borderline top 100 recruit. He while also skinny also is coming in with more beef than Lieb. Lieb to me was a hope to be a Tisdale at best. Jakstys is a possibility of a being a good Wisconsin PF with skills.

Yeah the likely was for Coleman who could technically comeback but I don't really see it. So those 5 are gone plus 1 open scholarship.

Currently have 3 incoming with a possible 4th in Fears. Means they have 2-3 open spots for the portal depending on what Fears does and before anyone portals out.

He very well might be but he's a freshman and only 6'9. I like Hansberry a lot too but he seems more like a 4 and doesn't seem like the rim protecting type.

Then Dain is long but not exactly vertically explosive. Imo you try to add some more length and rim protection to play inside.

Personally though I'm not really a huge fan of how Dain's game fits in the modern game. I'd be perfectly fine with him transferring out and replacing him with a rim rolling big that protects the rim(A bandaogo type). Then I would look to add a stretch 4 type that can shoot any play some 3.

I'd have to respectively disagree with this. Dain, Johnson, and Hansberry are three large motors that hit the glass. I love that trio down low heading into next year. Right now I see a starting lineup of Gibbs-L., Goode, Rogers, Hansberry/Johnson, and Dain for next year. Then Harris, Hansberry/Johnson, Butler coming off the bench. We'll likely grab 2-3 guys out of the portal and if you replace any in the starting lineup above even better. I'd love to see another knock down shooter for next year along with a veteran PG, and a lock down defender. I think we're fine down low. Don't get me wrong, if we grab a stud rim protector I'm fine with that, but I think there are other priorities we need to hit up first with the 3 bigs we'll already have in place.

That may well be. But I ask you: who are we gonna bring in whose surname is as awesome & tough-sounding as his? ;)

Add Fears and next year's team will be fun to watch.
I think Fears will be good whenever he plays the next level but I don’t expect a kid who reclassifies to be dominant day 1

He will have a learning curve like most freshmen. Look how long it took Ayo to become a dominant college player. You saw flashes his freshmen year but was not consistent

Outside threats Domask and TSJ will be gone.

Goode will be back. We will need more outside shooting to keep people from collapsing on our bigs inside. A sweet shooting 2 guard like Rich McBride, Luther Head, Ayo Dosumu, Adam Miller, Alfonso Plummer would be an ideal. Could be portal or HS.
