You were born a little too late, 47. Last national championship was in '43.What this team needs is an athletically skilled 7 footer and another 6'7" wing or two. Then a couple of role players who can shoot and defend. Why would anyone else want guys like that?....but WE NEED them . Not sure we have the NIL to keep a team like that intact, especially if most are out of state/country.
2025-26 roster
Guards Fears, Butler, DGL, Morretti, Harris
Forwards Johnson, Jaktys, ? ? ?
Centers Hansberry ? ?
Seemingly, there are several strong options to fill out those ?, but they will NEED a really good 3 and a really good 5. With this kind of talent on the roster, that should not be a hill that can't be climbed.
At 77, I have been waiting for an Illini NC in basketball for almost 70 years. Hope I live to see it.
The puzzle pieces are shaping up. Hope BU can find the "everyday guys" he wants to put it all together. Not easy finding elite, older talent, like Q, Harmon, and MD, ready to play just a cog in the wheel and shine when necessary. They don't need the spotlight every game, but can be counted on to do elite things when elite things are needed.
Word gets around about who is planning on enter the portal….as far as legally contacting them….once they enter the portal.Anyone know who was the coach in charge of bringing in Domask, Harmon, & Quincy? Is one of the assistants scouring the country right now for possible transfers? What is the process they use to find these guys & how soon can they legally contact them.
Almost 70, waiting over 63 years. I was at the Arizona game in 2005. After we made that miraculous comeback, I was sure we were destined to be National Champion. What this team needs is an athletically skilled 7 footer and another 6'7" wing or two. Not hard to contact people….prior recruitments, aau cosches, high school coaches, parents, family members. Etc.The staff would never contact them earlier. But hypothetically if they did, what would it look like when one would reach out to a potential portal entrant? Would you get their number from someone and make a call and gauge interest?
C’mon claim your seat
I don't know as I'm not connected like our insiders. But I would think when a kid is looking to enter the portal, the players people start reaching out to prospective coaches at places they might consider. I'm not saying that some coaches are reaching out before they hit the portal. But I think to keep things on the up and up that if there has been communication that is going on through 3rd party entities. That's just my uninformed opinion... and worth the same as my Mississippi River beach house .The staff would never contact them earlier. Now that's shocking. Wow.Also james brown drops to 103, and Jakstys up to 117.
I think our insiders were ahead of the curve on this, but yes, a precipitous fall for a former 5 star. Now that's shocking. Wow.

While virtually all of us were focused on the soap opera of Brad's failure to sign a point guard last summer, Brad quietly went about signing the 3 players in the portal who best fit his definition of "every day guys". Domask, Guerrier and Harmon have to be right at the top of the portal signing list this offseason: tough, talented, experienced and coachable players who all appear to be great teammates that fit his system and coaching style and all with a common desire to do whatever is asked for by Brad in any individual game for the ILLINI to win. Brad's ability to identify, sign and incorporate their individual talents into his returning group of players in a relatively short period of time is the key to the successful turnaround of the Illinois program. We are once again a Top Ten Team and Brad and his staff including Fletch certainly deserve an enormous amount of credit for the ILLINI Phoenix rising from the ashes of last season's significant setback. Credit to Brad for recognizing the need for change and quickly implementing it when the program looked like it was heading in the wrong direction.Brad Underwood ... All 3 ...

This kid's gonna be a fan favorite!
