So, what's in Storr for tomorrow's Illinois Hoops Recruiting Thread?

Haven't seen them posted here so I don't assume they're target but have a couple of guys I thought were good that I'd be curious to hear where they are headed.

Connor Hickman(assuming IU)
Terrence Edwards Jr
Ben Humrichous(Davis kinda already took the spot he would fill)
Jvonne Hadley
BJ Freeman(don't know if there is enough balls to go around with Storr but he can score).

As a long time Illini fan, I just cannot come to grips yet with the Pay-to-Play world we seem to be in now. It's a huge adjustment for me. And while I understand the current landscape of NCAA sports, I find it hard to just jump in with both feet and be okay with how this is all shaking out. TSJ, and Domask earned my trust fairly early in their tenures,. but I am doubtful that is a guaranteed yearly outcome.
In 2023 Kansas had the highest ranked transfer group. In the 2023/2024 season, one could argue Kansas played one of their most disappointing seasons in a while (for various reasons).

This whole thing remains a crap shoot every year. It has changed everything. So far, we have found success in this new environment. I'm willing to ride with it until we don't. Then I'll start watching the Cornhole League for my entertainment. That is still pure and unadulterated (as far as I know.)

IL just made it's first elite 8 in 18 years because of that world. The only thing we were guaranteed before was that Kansas, Memphis, etc. were going to outbid us on prospects.

In an earlier post, I said that I had reservations about Storr. I also conceded that if BU was SURE Storr would buy in, it could work. The latest rumor that Storr is demanding 1M/yr and passed on 750k/yr from KS has me even more concerned.

The demand says to me that there is a massive ego that is disconnected from reality.
Eh, if Kansas came back with an offer of 75% of what he asked for, and he's gotten even more from Illinois, sounds like it's not disconnected from reality at all.
If we do pay the silly amount, can/will BU really bench him hard when he doesn't follow instructions or practice hard or defend hard?
Of course he can.
Will the major NIL contributors tear BU a new one if he does bench him?
All the NIL contributors want is for Illinois to succeed, and if benching the highest price guys is the way to do that, there's no issue.

But you are asking a good question about NIL world generally, the whole thing really calls into question who is actually in control of a program now.

There have been lots of rumors of tensions between collectives and coaches, schools, other collectives, etc. But a situation hasn't really blown up yet. It will.

But it seems like BU and the Illinois NIL community have a relatively trusting and positive relationship, which is a huge huge benefit for us.

ALL OF THE ABOVE SAID, y'know, the biggest ballhog in America who has played for 7 schools in 7 years and is prospecting for NIL riches while his team is still playing, and we're going to pay him megabucks to be the centerpiece of the team when Kansas won't?

That's a risk.

Not really true. We had some great seasons under BU pre-NIL.

We aren't where we are because of NIL. We're here because Brad Underwood is a good coach. I think NIL might give us a better ability to compete with the other schools, but just look at IU to see how NIL without coaching doesn't accomplish much.

Maddox visited TCU today. I want him pretty bad but I can’t imagine he’d come off the bench as a lot of people have speculated. Dude is a high major starting level player, IMO.

I’d be cool with him as our starting point guard, tbh. I’d rather take Boswell but my fear is that we’ll pass on guys like Maddox while we wait for Boswell and end up missing out on PGs like last year with RayJ if KB ends up staying at Arizona or not picking us (yes, I know we had an awesome season without a PG)
He’s not a PG.

Really good 3 point shooter and can shoot it on the run. To me he's an upgraded version of Goode that doesn't have to be set when he shoots like Luke does. Will be a really good role player for years to come with 3 years left. Will be the smallest name we add, but could be sneaky important
Small piece I was reading on Davis was he guarded the 3,4,5... now in the B1G he wont be asked to guard most 4/5 (depending on match ups) but I agree he is essentially a better athlete version of Goode and will be one of the sneakier adds around the B1G. Should be an instant contribution if his defense is as good as his shooting has been heralded.

Uhh, that would probably get someone perma-banned. She has a rather high dislike of Prudue.

I don’t believe the OP was referring to success of season/E8 when saying “guaranteed yearly outcome.” The “that” refers to transfers earning his trust early like TSJ and Marcus did.
