Would you say the top candidates for the PG role are Boswell (assuming he enters), Small, and Isaacs?

I haven't seen any of them play really, just kind of judging on reputation and box scores compared to the other guys we're targeting (Oweh, Hill, Maddox, Davis, etc.)
I think Small went out the window when his coach went to Michigan- Michigan could have a scary good transfer class with May and Boynton there
Davis
Golden
Small
Garrison
Dailey
Would be the most talented team in the big ten- let’s see if they can pull it off

People saying that we need to keep players like Goode/Harris and we need to move away fro players like Aj Storr all the while the wanting a national championship is very mind numbing.

I glad Brad doesn’t see it this way.

Illinois faithful, why can’t you embrace greatness? Sometime this fans base has kind of a losers mentality. If we want to be blue bloods we need to think and act like blue bloods.
I think this is a common strawman argument that incorporates all things. A common one I hear is why should we have a US space program when we could be using that money to feed the hungry/shelter the homeless. But those two things aren't actually related and even if they were, why would they be mutually exclusive?

As to this example, we wouldn't be bringing in Storr to take Goode or Sencire's roster spot. There are open spots available and him joining the team won't effect either of them. But if we were to go after 5 or 6 transfers instead of 4 and tell Goode or Harris we prefer those transfers over them as slotted significant minute depth pieces that would effectively take their spot.

The real argument though is what you somewhat alluded to and that's how do you best build a team? And not only your starters but your bench? Do you want high level skill players on your bench that are part for part replacements of your starters or do you want to go more the skilled x-factor route where you have players who will be extremely high value in certain games and conditions but may struggle in other matchups?

In my opinion sometimes you do want to just rotate part for part talent and wear thin less talented teams down, but I also think sometimes you really need a high energy lock down defender (like Sencire) or a 3pt weapon, or a more physical bruiser down low depending on matchup. So it's a balancing act. I value a player like Sencire more whereas others may value a Harmon more, but I also think it depends on your team building philosophy.

FAU didn’t exactly give off “we love our coach and are going to play our assess off for him everyday” vibes this year

Don't think small but they want a point guard, preferably a guy who like to pass and doesn't want to take 15 shots. If they land Hill/Maddox and Storr, both of those guys are score first players so you want a pg that fits there who can also shoot it. I expect our two biggest names/gets to be the wing and big
Are they not going after Small? IMO he would be an ideal addition.

Best of luck to Sencire, but as others have said, he wasn't/isn't the caliber player that would have made an impact on this team. Hard worker, but very limited. Let's not make it seem like we just lost an All B1G player here
None of us know the impact Harris would have on this team or whatever team he ends up playing for. A lot of similar posts when Podziemski announced his transfer. Wished he would stay but this the new world of college bball. As someone else posted earlier...don't get too attached to guys...but it's tough.

Ok this is the good stuff, imo. To me, the quality of big we can get is equally as important, maybe more so, than the wing we get. Not to say that getting Storr wouldn't in all likelihood be great, but if we got a pick and pop big with legit size (or maybe an elite rim protector as an alternative, although that might greatly limit Ty unless he can find his jumper again this offseason) ...

I put two chicken tenders on a bun yesterday. Did I make a sandwich? It was delicious, so I’d say yes.
I think you’ve cracked the code on this one. It’s all in the eye of the beholder. It’s a sandwich if “you” say it is. It’s sort of a conceptual art type thing I guess?

I'm not disagreeing, I'm trying to work through this... I think I see a difference because a bun or bread or tortilla are created separately and then the fillings are added vs a hot dog that is battered and then fried as one, so a corn dog = chicken nuggets ?
So now chicken nuggets are sandwiches?

That’s great if we have an inside track on either of those guys - they are centers that we sorely missed this year but can step out and hit a three occasionally as well. I thought Wolf was Michigan bound but maybe they have their sights on Golden and/or Garrison now instead

Pairing either with Storr would put us right back into Big Ten contention

So do you know this to be true or are you taking a twitter post as fact?
Speculation, but the idea that Storr has been beating the bushes looking for an NIL bag has been out there for months, and Kansas was stated as a school that has been in contact with him.

KU has a ton of guards and scoring coming back, whereas those are big time needs for us. It makes sense that we might be more aggressive financially in pursuing him.

Dante Maddox or Marcus Hill? Keep in mind if you take Hill Storr becomes even more of a lock. Both really good players
Is Johnell Davis and Maddox at the same price as Storr and Hill a realistic option?

Because among other things that's two 5th year players versus a 3rd and 4th year. Also two better passers.

So are they essentially waiting on Storrs decision to determine which why they’re going to go?

Yeah recruiting goes hand in hand with roster construction, and it's fun to play armchair coach/GM in threads like this. (although I'm trying to lose a bit of weight for the summer, so all the sandwich talk is... sub-optimal)

Sincere vs Goode is an interesting example. This past year, with Coleman playing the 5, someone who is awesome on the ball like Sincere would have been great to have, whereas if we happen to get a big in the portal this year that is a great rim protector, I think might be able to get away with a bit less on-ball defense, and someone like Goode or another shooter becomes more valuable, since you'd be losing Coleman as a shooting threat, obviously.

I like both, but I think Wolf’s got some serious athletic limitations. He got exposed at times in the tournament defensively.

I’d still be extremely happy if we land him, especially giving he’s got two more years.

Does taking Maddox hurt Illinois' chances with Storr? Are there any comparable players to Storr that Illinois could land if they take Maddox and Storr decides to go elsewhere? How comparable in talent are Hill and Maddox? Who's the bigger contributor to a winning season?

I will predict that Sencire ends up at Ohio State and breaks the heart of the ILLINI in a very meaningful game. Hope I’m wrong.

while i love tough role players (goode) and ever team needs a couple, get as many athletic scorers/ rim runners as possible.
i don't put sincere in the role player category, he can do a lot with his athleticism.
