Players have talked with coaches a bit this week. Official meetings are going to start on Monday, so we should start to see some movement then. I expect 2 more transfers out and at most 3. I think there is a legit chance for both Marcus and Coleman to come back. A lot of factors will play into that though-Marcus waiver is probably 50/50, Coleman could depend on his knee.

They really want Maddox. I think they like Hill as well. Also, Boswell should be entering the portal next week. The question is do you take two of those guys plus a wing or two (Storr or someone else)? This could piss off a couple of guys on the team but it gives you more proven talent right away. Also I know they really want a stretch 4 and also maybe a 5, so that will be interesting to see what happens as well.

They really like these three kids at the four (we have been linked to all three publicly as well):

I know Amani wants to stay and the staff loves him but if they add two bigs, would be interesting to see what his outlook would be. Still think he would stay, but I would be curious to see what happens with that

Also, AJ Storr remains the #1 priority right now. Kentucky is our main challenger there but I think we have a clear edge right now. Gonna try and close that one down in the next couple of weeks.

I expect them to add at least four transfers, could be five or six depending on who leaves and what happens with Marcus and Coleman. They are hoping to have a Domask answer in the next two to three weeks
Whatever they do, I hope they don’t piss off Morez. Need to keep him happy.

Thanks for the update. I really wonder what the staff is thinking given Storr isn't known for his defense.

Man i don’t know if there ever was a recruit in the past decade and perhaps further that was more committed to illinois.

Not saying he’d be willing to ride pine for 3 years, but id imagine a transfer big his freshmen year isn’t going to sway morez after a 3 year commitment.

You look at the strides Xavier Amos has made in the last year and it's gotta be tempting to wonder if there's even more there to be unlocked.

In-state kid, transferring after two years at NIU like Kenny Battle, the vibes are good.

He was clearly the best kid on that Whitney Young team even though a few of his teammates were rated higher by recruiting sites. If you watched them play you could tell he was going to be better in college than AJ Casey.

Question for you: during the season, you said Illini were going to be going after big-time transfers and that next years roster was going to be loaded (that was my interpretation any way). Are the names you’ve mentioned (Storr, Maddox, Hill, etc.) about what you were expecting or are they others you thought we were going be involved with that so far haven’t materialized?

One question i have, based on the "maybe a 5" part, is:

If we DON'T get a 5 in the portal, what would the plan be to stop teams with top tier bigs? It seems to me that Amani and Rez (and Coleman if he happens to come back) would be better off guarding 4s if we can help it.

And all 3 of those players listed look pretty good to me, it's nothing against any of them. But it just seems to me that we would really struggle against certain teams, and therefore we'd likely have a certain ceiling for the season, if we don't get a legit 5. Or are we thinking Rez and Amani can cover that role? Honest questions, I'm looking to get educated on what the thought process might be.

What about stones or stainless cubes?
I've not tried them but the idea is sound. Only problem is they probably don't hold their cold for long. Now, if they had some kind of phase changing medium inside (like water) you might get the best of both worlds.

Storr and Boswell would certainly qualify as "big time"

And I think the value of the grizzled 5th year mid-major with a high-major translatable game has certainly been demonstrated this year when you look at what guys like Cam Spencer and Dalton Knecht are doing, not to mention Domask.

Coleman vs No Coleman makes such a titanic difference in that regard it's a little tough to define what our needs would be.

I think we know for certain that Coleman's intent was to go pro. But if he's actually going to have surgery that takes him out of the pre-draft process, I'm sure other possibilities creep into consideration.

Will make for an interesting lunch decision for me. At least it’s Friday.

I wonder what will be on the menu Monday? Hmm, I’m excited to read

I was asking Louisville if this was about what he expected based on what he was hearing during the season. I wasn’t stating an opinion on those players…just curious if this was about what he expected.
