Coaches used to push prep school for a fifth high school year for some players. Now I wonder if they won't tell guys to go to a MAC/MVC type of school and stay in touch.Honestly, it’s a legitimate question. It’s going to be tough for kids outside the top 50 to play much their first year in a top 30 program. If you can essentially be a free agent every season, why wouldn’t you just go somewhere you’ll play?
I wonder who the first player to leave a team and eventually make his way back will be… It’s going to happen.
OK - I like Small because he seems like more of a legitimate PG, but he or Davis would be great. Storr or St. Thomas for a wing. For a big, Raynaud. Why not dream bigger- Johnell Davis, Reynaud and Storr!
I thought we lost Small when his coach went to Michigan but if Michigan does get Johnell to follow May there, I doubt Small would go there- they both want the ball in their hands so Small could be in play- but I hope they are making a serious run at Johnell, obviously he would be a big difference maker no matter who comes back

Already has. Meechie Johnson is returning to Ohio State.
South Carolina transfer Meechie Johnson returning to Ohio State for his final season
After two years at South Carolina, Meechie Johnson is transferring back to Ohio State to finish his college career.www.dispatch.com
The only thing I’m sure of in the current uncertain landscape is that someone is looking hard for loopholes, no matter how short lived they may be.Coaches used to push prep school for a fifth high school year for some players. I think the prestige that comes from a P6 scholarship out of high school will probably prevent that from happening too often. But who knows.
Or how about this for an idea. Let's use a bit of NIL money to send Kaden Magwood and then we get right of first refusal in two years. I kid. Kinda.
Nothing funnier than mutton bustingWait is a goat rodeo better than a real rodeo?
Wouldnt surprise me in the future if a school (us for ex.) were to give NIL to (UIC for ex.) with the agreement that they get the kid for 1 or 2 yrs and we get him afterward. Both teams benefit. It seems far fetched but (not very long ago) so did just giving a kid enough NIL to pay his own way with no scholarship.Coaches used to push prep school for a fifth high school year for some players. It’s called a Marfo amongst people who follow this !!!! *gestures widely* and it’s fascinating…Honestly, it’s a legitimate question. I agree and I think Davis is a better pull up shooter. If domask doesn't get the waiver, I like Johnell Davis to replace him the best. I know he's not quite as big but he can still play with his back to the basket or just go get a bucket. Plus he's a more consistent outside shooter.
Agree, I expect that if you aren't top 50 out of HS, you do better financially over your 4-5 year college career if you go somewhere you can start and get 1-2 years of game experience vs going to a top 20 program, sitting on a bench, trying to get a few minutes a game. With the top 20 programs using NIL to remove risk by taking college proven players for their starting 5s, going to be hard to get playing time at those programs.Honestly, it’s a legitimate question. Youre right but pretty much any kid that is good enough to be a top 100 recruit probably thinks they're good enough to be the exception at first.Agree, I expect that if you aren't top 50 out of HS, you do better financially over your 4-5 year college career if you go somewhere you can start and get 1-2 years of game experience vs going to a top 20 program, sitting on a bench, trying to get a few minutes a game. Make your mistakes and prove yourself in a smaller program, seems better than hoping your 2-3 minutes of game time eventually translates into a starting role.
With all the whiskey talk, I‘m starting to understand the posts.I'm on some Michter's with a rock. Was the best deal at Binnys last weekend
When one has massive turnover every year one can run into the "culture problem"Why bother recruiting the HS ranks if they’re just going to be pushed out after a year or two?
Here you go - Post in thread 'Illinois Hoops Recruiting Thread' https://www.illinoisloyalty.com/post/illinois-hoops-recruiting-thread.33841/post-2039262Robbie Avila has been mentioned and questioned, but in reading all the posts in this thread over the past week, I have not seen any insider info on whether he might be portaling and if we might be interested. He graduated from Oak Forest (Illinois) H.S. and went to the MVC where he has been a star. He is 6' 10". shoots the three ball over 39%, and is pretty crafty and a team player. Great guy to have for two years, IMHO. Just wondering if BU would be interested if he portaled?
Tyler Harris did this at Memphis. Played two years, spent a year at Iowa St, back to Memphis and now is at USF.Honestly, it’s a legitimate question. I saw him against Seton Hall and MSU, he is a significant defensive liability. If BU wasn't happy with Dain, then Avila wouldn't see the court. Also when ISU was mounting their comeback against Seton Hall, Avila couldn't keep up with the back and forth play. He is a solid mid-major player, can play at BYU type schools. Avila looks closer to 6-8 then legit 6-10, having guards not respect you at the rim is a problem at the BIG.Robbie Avila has been mentioned and questioned, but in reading all the posts in this thread over the past week, I have not seen any insider info on whether he might be portaling and if we might be interested. This is an example of today’s portaling chaos definitely saying without saying it’s not about the academics for these guys. I know, I know, old fashioned, but I raised my kids that academics come first, sports second. That is now gone, it appears. Now it’s a business. Just sad in a way, but I get it.Tyler Harris did this at Memphis. Played two years, spent a year at Iowa St, back to Memphis and now is at USF.
My overly optimistic but possible line-up..Everyone list what you think will be the starting 5 and bench 5 this upcoming year. Portal guys names included

Dude can hoop, but I feel like he would just be a sideshow at UI. He should stay in the MVC or a similar conference.Robbie Avila has been mentioned and questioned, but in reading all the posts in this thread over the past week, I have not seen any insider info on whether he might be portaling and if we might be interested.
