Honestly, it’s a legitimate question. It’s going to be tough for kids outside the top 50 to play much their first year in a top 30 program. If you can essentially be a free agent every season, why wouldn’t you just go somewhere you’ll play?
I wonder who the first player to leave a team and eventually make his way back will be… It’s going to happen.
Coaches used to push prep school for a fifth high school year for some players. Now I wonder if they won't tell guys to go to a MAC/MVC type of school and stay in touch.

I think the prestige that comes from a P6 scholarship out of high school will probably prevent that from happening too often. But who knows.

Or how about this for an idea. Let's use a bit of NIL money to send Kaden Magwood and then we get right of first refusal in two years. I kid. Kinda.

Why not dream bigger- Johnell Davis, Reynaud and Storr!

I thought we lost Small when his coach went to Michigan but if Michigan does get Johnell to follow May there, I doubt Small would go there- they both want the ball in their hands so Small could be in play- but I hope they are making a serious run at Johnell, obviously he would be a big difference maker no matter who comes back
OK - I like Small because he seems like more of a legitimate PG, but he or Davis would be great. Storr or St. Thomas for a wing. For a big, Raynaud.

😂 The only thing I’m sure of in the current uncertain landscape is that someone is looking hard for loopholes, no matter how short lived they may be.

If domask doesn't get the waiver, I like Johnell Davis to replace him the best. I know he's not quite as big but he can still play with his back to the basket or just go get a bucket. Plus he's a more consistent outside shooter.

Wouldnt surprise me in the future if a school (us for ex.) were to give NIL to (UIC for ex.) with the agreement that they get the kid for 1 or 2 yrs and we get him afterward. Both teams benefit. It seems far fetched but (not very long ago) so did just giving a kid enough NIL to pay his own way with no scholarship.

It’s called a Marfo amongst people who follow this !!!! *gestures widely* and it’s fascinating…

I agree and I think Davis is a better pull up shooter.

However, Domask quietly shot 37% from 3 from January 1st to the end of the season. If you look at his number it looks like he had a bad shooting year but he was actually pretty good for the most meaningful part of the schedule.

Agree, I expect that if you aren't top 50 out of HS, you do better financially over your 4-5 year college career if you go somewhere you can start and get 1-2 years of game experience vs going to a top 20 program, sitting on a bench, trying to get a few minutes a game. With the top 20 programs using NIL to remove risk by taking college proven players for their starting 5s, going to be hard to get playing time at those programs.

Make your mistakes and prove yourself in a smaller program, seems better than hoping your 2-3 minutes of game time eventually translates into a starting role.

I’m sorry if I missed, can you share with those of us who don’t know? Tks.

Youre right but pretty much any kid that is good enough to be a top 100 recruit probably thinks they're good enough to be the exception at first.

You have guys committing to Duke that are top 50 guys and they are like the 4th/5th high ranked recruit in the class. You could argue all of those guys would probably be better off going to a different power conference team and being a center piece where they run the risk of getting left on the bench and then recruited over by Duke.

For example, Darren Harris is the 51st ranked recruit on 247 but he's their 6th ranked commit and behind two wings in Cooper Flagg and Isiah Evans. Now he might end up being better and playing more like Kentucky's freshman this year but he could also get buried as a freshman and then have other top 10 type recruits come in the next year.

Yes, but what poster will be the first (without credible evidence) to proclaim his defense is terrible?

Why bother recruiting the HS ranks if they’re just going to be pushed out after a year or two?
When one has massive turnover every year one can run into the "culture problem"
We have had a couple of recent years when the culture of the team was not optimal.
I hear ya though, players who "gut it out" their first two years, thinking they will start their third year, and it becomes clear that is not likely -not going to be around long.

Robbie Avila has been mentioned and questioned, but in reading all the posts in this thread over the past week, I have not seen any insider info on whether he might be portaling and if we might be interested. He graduated from Oak Forest (Illinois) H.S. and went to the MVC where he has been a star. He is 6' 10". shoots the three ball over 39%, and is pretty crafty and a team player. Great guy to have for two years, IMHO. Just wondering if BU would be interested if he portaled?

Tyler Harris did this at Memphis. Played two years, spent a year at Iowa St, back to Memphis and now is at USF.

I saw him against Seton Hall and MSU, he is a significant defensive liability. If BU wasn't happy with Dain, then Avila wouldn't see the court. Also when ISU was mounting their comeback against Seton Hall, Avila couldn't keep up with the back and forth play. He is a solid mid-major player, can play at BYU type schools. Avila looks closer to 6-8 then legit 6-10, having guards not respect you at the rim is a problem at the BIG.

BU is going to want a rim runner, defensive prescence.

This is an example of today’s portaling chaos definitely saying without saying it’s not about the academics for these guys. I know, I know, old fashioned, but I raised my kids that academics come first, sports second. That is now gone, it appears. Now it’s a business. Just sad in a way, but I get it.

that's great, but were they D1 revenue sport athletes? big difference, IMO. also, I think it's been that way (academics an afterthought, at best), for a long time. yes, there are exceptions

Dude can hoop, but I feel like he would just be a sideshow at UI. He should stay in the MVC or a similar conference.

No disrespect intended.
