Any new rumors out there re: the portal? We need to find a quality good man; Dain will be gone, I'm sad to say, which leaves us only Hansberry and Morez. They are talented guys, but not much (if any) experience. That's a gaping hole in the roster, since Jackstys has already indicated he needs a redshirt year. Will be very interested to see how Underwood addresses this challenge. sounds like rebuild to me.
I'm thinking we go after Bronny, his daddy who never went to college finishes his career at Illinois playing with his son. Everybody's happy

I still don't know who you are or your qualifications. But you're attacking insiders close to the program who have proven their bona-fides. I suggest you take your shtick elsewhere.

This is one of his close friends so sounds like he’s back

Butler is only the third player in the Underwood era to decommit, right? Only other two I can remember were Storr and Reggie Bass after Chin and Antigua went to Kentucky.

I mean he wants to play right away and I get that. But he wanted to be guaranteed a role next year and we just can’t do that with who we’re going to bring in. Work hard and show your stuff and beat some people out and you’ll get tick and a role but obviously he didn’t want to do that 🤷🏻‍♂️
If he's seriously going to go to UC-Santa Barbara, it sure sounds to me like he's reading the current marketplace and seeing that a volume scoring All-Big West player is going to have more value in the latter half of their college career than a little-used bench player at Illinois even if they're the exact same guy.

That's quite savvy, imho. Disappointing for us though. In some ways the "what's the point of HS recruiting?" question will wind up answering itself, if this is a great place to be a transfer and a bad place to be a freshman, the player marketplace will respond accordingly.

The usual suspects doing the character assassination thing on Jase Butler. Never fails.

Everyone who leaves the program is obviously a terrible person.
One trillion percent. This is a truly wonderful forum, but this is its worst trait by far.

I've become frustrated with this stupid Twitter groupthink that it's never okay to objectively criticize a guy who decides to decommit - "we don't know their journey" and other such nonsense.

Thankfully on this board we do get a peek behind the curtain but in many cases the commit outright says (either implicitly or explicitly) why they bounced and in instances wherein the reasons are Butler's reasons - I find it more than fair to simply call a spade a spade. All these guys are paid now, they're of age to vote for the leader of the free world, they're at an age sufficient to receive grounded criticism for the choices they make. That's part of sports at this level, sorry.

Just exhausting having to tip toe through egg shells every time one of them pulls **** like this. My tip toeing shoes are worn. I'm tossing them.

What did the staff originally say to him regarding playing time?

I really hope they didn't guarantee a lot of playing time to Harris unless he improved A LOT on offense. He averaged 15 mpg as a freshman, and that's too many unless he improved a lot.
