Does anyone have intel on what the staff envisions his role to be? Is he kind of a Quincy replacement?

Good Lord… we sign a guy who will be bench depth/developmental project and you all are disappointed because he’s not a first team AA. Brad is really, really good at this. Just give him some space to breathe and put his entire roster together before you tell us how underwhelmed you are.
Username checks out. Or does it??? (I’m actually not sure.). 🤔

BU , looking into the portal , as internet posters ask " why him " ??.......................

We have tried to use our conduit , pruman91 , to enlighten this board about what is coming to your world......We thought the Illini's first Elite 8 & Sweet 16 in nineteen years might have allowed more here to broaden their craniums to accept what our trusted pru is relaying to you through the numerous binary codes we transmit through him........

The snarkyness that raises it's ugly head here is not overlooked by us ......Only the true faithful Fighting Illini fanatics will ever see the promised land........We , as your Engineers , are appalled by the lack of faith and apparent non belief in our support of the Illini programs.....

We singled pruman91 out as a toddler because of his great competitive traits and his ability to adjust to any situation in an intelligent and mature way.........

We , as your Ancients , ask for more compassion for other posters here in a gracious and friendly manner.........it won't be long before we arrive to restore balance to this precious orb you all call Earth.........

Trust in pru as he posts here.......Many of his posts might be hard to understand to the layman , but all his posts have a purpose........

Look up skyward as we are approaching the Event Horizon........We can't wait , as we all here on the spaceship want some big helping's of Chicken Nuggets and Cottage Cheese .........It is so enjoyable to see new planets and enjoy their natural foods......

See you soon and here are some parting gift's for all to enjoy....................Ta-Ta........................

Good: A 6'7 wing who is shooting 45% with shot volume. Good rebounder. Seriously, how bad can this be?

Bad: A lot of fans saying he quit on his team. His defensive ratings, which are teammate dependent, are really bad.
The Tre White description from the Athletic's transfer portal rankings. The underlined portions seem particularity relevant here.

Tre White - #88 (as of 4/5/24)

Ht: 6-7 Wt: 205

"White was a late transfer last season who surprisingly decided to leave USC after an impressive freshman season in which his modest production (nine points and five rebounds per game) belied his remarkable defensive versatility across multiple positions. At Louisville, White did basically the same thing on offense while strangely providing none of the defense that made him such an effective player at USC. I’m genuinely not sure what happened. His effort level wasn’t there regularly, particularly in transition defense. Maybe he was just a poor fit with Kenny Payne’s coaching style. But he needs to get back to the level he previously showed.

Offensively, White is largely a slasher and cutter who struggles to shoot the ball — though he actually made 36 percent of his spot-up 3s, per Synergy. He doesn’t have a monster first step, but he has long strides and a big, physical frame that defenders bounce off. He’ll typically try to shoot if his drive is aborted, but he only made 39 percent of his pull-up midrange shots this year, which isn’t good enough. Unless White can drastically improve as a shooter, he’s not a good enough offensive player to give the kind of defensive effort he gave this season.

Maybe a new coach will serve as a wake-up call. White is certainly talented enough to be a high-major starter for the next two years. But he won’t be one if the defense doesn’t return."

This is a completely dishonest take as to why fans on here are questioning this signing. It has nothing to do with him not being top ranked or being a "depth" signing. It has everything to do with him having the worst attitude on the court for a team that had team-wide issues with attitude and effort. Given the views of most Louisville fans on this signing and what I saw defensively from him when I watched Louisville play earlier this season, the concerns expressed are more than reasonable. Character counts. Whether it's from your starters or your bench guys, bad psyche has a negative effect on team chemistry. Hopefully he will prove the doubters wrong, but it's insulting to the intellect of any reasonable observer to call the doubts on this signing unreasonable.

I don't have any issue with White as long as he's not pushing Ty out and he's coming off the bench as like an 8th man.

Good size and athleticism. His success in the mid-range and solid at the free throw line suggest he could and should develop as a 3pt shooter. If he hasn't been good defensively then it's simply a question of effort because has all the tools to be a good defender at the college level.

I like that it seems like Brad is committed to being big on the perimeter. It's such a huge advantage at this level. Now go get Storr, Conwell, and Booth/Bradshaw.
