So, we finally know how we stand with Storr.

The Office Thank You GIF
Any transfer could do that. No reason to assume that Storr is or has done it.

What do you consider a high NIL amount ... He ain't coming for free ... Lol ...

But the connection to Brad, and being back home ... It matters ...
$800k :)

Was just curious if Boswell was more NIL motivated or relationship-based, understanding it's a combo of both.

Can confirm ... Boswell is not getting 800k ...

The transfer here is not NIL motivated ... But he is going to get his fair share ... He will be top 3 in NIL on the team next year ...

Unless Domask or Hawkins come back ... But if either of those come back ... We have individual donors who have said they will cover their NIL themselves ... So that the staff can recruit under the salary cap without having to worry about holding anything back just in case ...

If Storr wants $1 mil because of the fixation of being able to claim “one million dollars” will he ever be happy taking anything less?

Maybe try a Porsche like Ty Ty Washington's 2021 NIL deal with the Porsche Dealership in Lexington, KY.

Can you share what we are looking at for a salary cap this season?

Can anyone remind/explain to me what's the plan at the 5? I know BU loved the spacing by going small. However, I felt like having a playable big would be very valuable. Like we didn't just struggle against Edey and Clingan, we struggled against almost every big with a pulse.

A rim protecting C that can give us 15-20 mins. Is BU targeting that in the portal? Any names? If not, I feel like we're putting a lot of eggs in hoping Morez can fill that need which scares me because he's a freshman big so I'm expecting him to struggle with foul trouble come big ten play.

@Indy Illini Fan What are some other potential guards we are looking at to compliment Boswell since Maddox is most likely out? Thanks for all the info you share …

I think the new era of NIL actually benefits Illinois , moving forward a bad year should be rare for us

I think it absolutely does. We can play with the big boys financially and no longer have to take a backseat to the "blue blood" programs. I think NIL gives our program a lot more control over recruiting and the opportunity to influence kids who never would have considered us before.

I've kind of said all along ... I think they add Booth ...

I have heard we are out on Garrison and Reed ... And we aren't really attached to any other true 5s at the moment ...

Now that might change but for now ... That's where we sit ...

Storr's profile is VERY similar to TSJ going into this year and didn't TSJ make like $900K in NIL (we know from the court filings) - Storr will likely get that

From a statistical comparison - they are the same player
GP GS Min FG FG% 3P 3P% FT FT% OR DR Reb Ast Blk Stl PF TO
363628.86.0-13.843.41.3-4.232.03.5-4.381.21.12.83.90.90.10.61.11.616.8
313032.05.1-11.644.21.6-5.032.15.4-6.879.01.23.44.62.80.51.32.42.617.2

The top row is Storr last year, bottom is TSJ going into this year
I'd disagree pretty strongly.

TSJ scored a lot more points per shot attempt (1.16 vs 1.06), had many more assists (5 vs 2 per 100 possessions), more steals (2.3 vs 1.3 per 100), and more blocks (0.9 vs 0.3 per 100). He did have more turnovers (4.6 vs 3.3 per 100), and scored fewer points per 100 possessions, but the efficiency and other contributions far outweigh those.

If you like all-in-one metrics, TSJ was much better in sports-reference WS/40 (0.194 vs 0.124) and ORtg/DRtg (115.6/98.3 vs 108.8/109.4) as well.

We'd be buying upside rather than past performance here. I'd like to think that would costs less than TSJ and would allow us to fill out the starting rotation with some upgrades from this past year to offset that risk.

It's not like we couldn't if we wanted to but it's about salary cap ...

And let's not act like Xavier doesn't have NIL ... They've got top 3 NIL in the Big East and top 25 nationally ... They've got $$$ ...
Who sets the salary cap?? And if a donor suddenly wanted to give more $$$$ does that move the cap????

I wouldn't say we're out on Maddox just yet - but I imagine we'll start to hear more of others if he doesn't commit on his visit and makes his trip to Cincy.

I was never really that impressed watching Kylan
Boswell this year, however, I think Fred VanVleet
is a good comparable. I watched Fred in high school and followed his career at Wichita State. He never impressed me that much either. Fred makes a lot of winning plays and rarely ever turns the ball over. The proof is in the pudding, as they say, and Fred has won at every level. I think Kylan could follow a similar path and he's bigger.

I would not say that we are out on Maddox ... The race is just much closer than it was even a couple days ago ... Sean is feeling confident ... But we're going to get a chance to lock it down before he does ... I do think that Maddox wants to be here but is the role going to be better here than what he is going to get at Xavier ? Because he'll start there and easily get 30+ minutes a game ... NIL is essentially the same ... So I think it really is going to be a tough decision for the young man ...

If we do lose out on Maddox ... Couple names to watch: Ryan Conwell, Jordan Pope, Duke Miles and Selton Miguel ...

So now we're sitting instead of standing with Storr. Thanks for the subtle hints. Sounds like this is headed in the right direction!

Thanks @Indy Illini Fan !!!

I remember him, but I was under the impression he'd fill the "Coleman Hawkins" role. But that would mean we'd be in a similar spot like last year. I was looking at Dain replacement. Not offensively but a defensive big with size that can actually stay on the court.

I just worry about how we'll fair against bigs in the B10 since it seems there's some good talent there in the conference.

Didn’t Booth publicly say the main reason he’s leaving Notre Dame was he sees himself as a stretch 4 and doesn’t like playing the 5?

I think we have shown playing 5-out without a "true" 5 works for the offense Brad likes. Will we struggle to stop an Edey? Sure...but so does almost everyone. A good post player may get his, but make him chase on the perimeter and 3>2. I think the obsession with getting a big post guy is just a reaction to losing a couple games to some all-time centers.

I'm tempted to wonder whether by splitting our forces with Maddox and Storr we're risking losing both, and whether the prudent move might not be locking down Maddox and reworking from there.

Storr feels like a point of pride, it's a headline grabbing, alpha dog establishing coup. But how ACTUALLY valuable of a basketball deal is it, relative to Ryan Conwell for way less money?
