When did a 5 star player become decent ??

We're acting like Brad is bringing in Tejon Lucas or something ... Come on guys ...
Well, to be fair, he was a 5 star player out of high school, but I'm seeing him as a 4 star transfer now

I totally agree with a 5 star being above decent but as far he hasn't played anywhere near what most expect from a 5 star.if I believe correctly his pog is 9.6 a game which I truly believe he will raise it with a illini my point that isn't going to lift us to elite 8 level without serious help.no disrespect he is just going to need some serious help it's not like he was playing with some bums with Zona

You realize Boswell was the starting PG on a top 10 team all season right (as an 18 year old)......?
I do but also realize he had major limitations along with limited playing time he also averaged 9.6 or there about I'm not trying to be that guy to call someone out I'm truly do believe he will be successful all I'm trying to say he will need some help as does anybody.i love ty but as of right now are starting line up as is doesn't make me belive he can take a major jump.not to say you bring in the right help it can't change things but as of now I don't believe either of the last 2 transfers we've got help move the needle in big ten champs.just my 2 cents

You realize how young he is. Shouldn't even been in college when he was. Body wasn't mature he wasn't mature for the situation. He found out the hard way. Don't see last 2 years being who he going to be. Reality check going to be a good thing for him

He broke the Illinois single season scoring record, plus he was an AA. He'll be up there.
That's just not how it works, Trent deserved to be up there too but didn't due to the rules. Shannon unfortunately doesn't meet the rules either:

Players selected to have their jerseys hung must have achieved any of the following criteria:
1) National Player of the Year
2) Enshrined in the National Basketball Hall of Fame
3) Big Ten Player of the Year
4) Consensus First- or Second-Team All-American
5) Illinois All-Century Team Member
6) Individual whose pioneering efforts made a significant impact on Illinois and international basketball

They can change the rules. Pretty confident Shannon’s jersey will be up there eventually provided he gets the criminal charges dismissed.

the rules say consensus 2nd team AA, wasn't he third team most places?

Please correct me if I'm wrong, I want to be wrong here.
As far as I can tell, there is no consensus third team.

And TSJ was not third team in most places. He was AP third team and an USBWA Honorable Mention. He was left off of the other two lists entirely.

So, yes, you are (unfortunately) correct that TSJ did not satisfy the current criteria to have his jersey honored.

As an aside, I get why you can't honor players for things like breaking the single season scoring record. It's a record that can conceivably be broken over and over again, and you also have the issue of deciding which statistical categories are and are not worthy of recognition. There are challenges that come with opening that particular door.

Holy crap. All the speculation is getting annoying. Just wait it out. Whoever we get and whoever stays. I’ll root for them. Regardless on where they finish I’ll be an Illinois fan. We’ve been through many high years and many low years. I’ll stand for Orange and Blue

wait until Booth goes somewhere else and we've tarnished are relationship with Amani and he leaves anyways... then we are left with our pants hanging around our ankles.

Decision-making under conditions of high uncertainty.
We are now in an era where the risk of pants falling is high for every team which hopes to be competitive.

Cool, but that doesn't make him a consensus 2nd team all-american. It doesn't mean that he has to make one 2nd team all-american team.

Also, for those in the know, and does the number 6 on the list of things that qualify you for get your jersey hung mean anything specifically? I figured that was there to give you some leeway for guys like Trent (maybe?) or for TSJ (assuming he is cleared).

Maybe 6 is the Tal Brody clause?

Speaking of which we haven't done enough to honor him in my opinion.

Just checked. Brody was AA. didn't need extra help.

I can't help thinking Boswell is a lock. Am I wrong, and is there any other player we could say that about?
