Go see Illini Twitter for more than our fair share of cocky homers. This board just has a streak of vocal, relentlessly pessimistic posters. I thought the fragile psyche would be shorn up with this last season’s results (especially after so many had attributed all our previous BU success to ‘getting Ayo and Kofi’), but I guess we’ll need a lot more than that to fix it.Seriously. The psyche of some of our fans is so annoying. John Groce’s tenure holds more weight to them than being consistently good for the last five years AND being consistently good for decades before that. They’re predisposed to be negative and pessimistic, and they’re CHOOSING this attitude even when past evidence (e.g., Underwood recruiting the portal well and not finishing low in the standings) goes against their schtick.
Again, at this point this fan base needs a desperate injection of cocky homers. We have the swagger of a program that’s coming off of 5 NITs, not an Elite Eight, several NCAAT appearances, consistently top 20 teams and 3 Big Ten banners.
If it means we win 6 national titles in 25 years, I'm all for us having "new money" arrogance.
No one is giving up on players. Podz wanted guaranteed minutes and transferred down a level. Coleman stuck it out and look at how he developed. At this level winning is everything. This is a cut throat business, this isn’t the goodship lollipop.
This board started out fun.
The off topic loyalty on loyalty bickering just brings the whole experience down for everyone else here. We may be anxious to hear recruiting news but we should all leave the trolling and bad vibes on X (and the Iowa State boards- yikes)

Sorry, even if we win six titles I hope we never achieve that level of arrogance. Act like you’ve been there before. Be Barry Sanders, not Terrell Owens.
Kind of sounds like the Calipari method at Kentucky. Unfortunately for Woodson he hasn’t been able to turn highly ranked players into winning teams. Even Cal has struggled with that lately. If it doesn’t work this year then I would hope for Woodson’s sake the contract buyout is significant.

No one knows what Podz wanted. Heck one of our "insiders" claimed he wanted a guaranteed starting spot!
Everything I've seen from Podz post Illinois shows he's the EDG that we claim we want. Our staff just didn't see it.
The same staff saw him everyday in practice. Their will be misses along the way but I get not guaranteeing him minutes.
As always, it all comes down to defining vague terms. Cal last made the final four in 2015. How many lottery picks has he had in that time?
I totally agree on PT guarantees. But that very year it was suggested that Clark got it.
Someone last week asked insiders to comment on such guarantees for top talent. None chimed in.
If some players get guarantees and others don't it may cause issues.

100% agree with you. Guaranteeing Skyy a starting spot was a very bad decision
Same with Mark Smith & Adam Miller. Smith just couldn’t cut it and kept being started way longer than he should have before Underwood finally pulled the plug. Ace still transferred despite starting every single game as a freshman.
Cal did not make them lottery picks!!! They would have been lottery picks no matter where they played or the rule that the NBA has that will not let them go straight from high school
Well nobody including you saw it. A lot of people can claim to have known Podz was that good after the fact. Arguably Moretti had more impact this year than Podz did his freshman year.

agreed, same with the guys Woodson has put in the league. Coach didn't get them there, those guys got to college with NBA talent
