White will be playing more of the 3. At 6’7 he’s not tall enough to play the 4 in Brads offense. Booth is 6’10. But it’s positionless basketball. Brad has the flexibility to move them around.
Bro Ty and Goode have both played the 4 in Brad's offense. Also, Jacob Grandison.

I would bet on Ty starting over White if one of them is though.

Seriously. The psyche of some of our fans is so annoying. John Groce’s tenure holds more weight to them than being consistently good for the last five years AND being consistently good for decades before that. They’re predisposed to be negative and pessimistic, and they’re CHOOSING this attitude even when past evidence (e.g., Underwood recruiting the portal well and not finishing low in the standings) goes against their schtick.

Again, at this point this fan base needs a desperate injection of cocky homers. We have the swagger of a program that’s coming off of 5 NITs, not an Elite Eight, several NCAAT appearances, consistently top 20 teams and 3 Big Ten banners. 🙄
Excellent take. Without having won a handful of NCs, the Illini, as much as any other program, are solidly seated behind the elite programs as an elite contender with solid coaching and placement of players in the NBA. Dreamers will always say the Illini should focus on winning NCs every season. Not that every team should not have that goal, but at the start of every season, I look for them to max their play as a team. They did that this year, but were never going to win it all. I look for the program to maintain a top 10 level of play every year, or regain that kind of status in two seasons. And when the stars align, a NC will come. More than anything, I want to see players progress and improve, striving to reach their potential and their dreams. That requires hard work, leaving your comfort zone, and listening to your coaches. Underwood seems to understand it all more than most. I like what I see.

Maddox knows one thing-to score the basketball at all 3 levels. Dare I say “elite” athlete.

Kylan is a rugged, traditional floor general type who can shoot from 3. Not going to wow with athleticism but knows how to use his body and play angles. Not having Caleb Love demanding the ball at every turn is going to do wonders for his development. This is a BIG one.
he's the type of point guard we've been desperately waiting for since the Groce era (in which we could never land a true point guard)... It's a huge huge pick up for our offense. We can get back to pick and rolls that we did with Ayo, but this time with a true PG

Lol I think so considering they were the #2 offense in the country with Ty and Goode playing minutes at the 4. The 21 team was 8th in the country offensively with Grandison at the 4. The 22 team also noticably dropped off after Grandison got injured.

Its college basketball you can absolutely play a 6'6-6'7 guy at the 4 and be fine. Houston just played a 6'7 guy and the biggest guy they started was 6'8.

Also, the 05 team which was ahead of its time offensively and wouldn't look out of place today played a 6'6 Roger Powell with 3 guards 6'3 or shorter.

People panicking about what our roster is today need to take some deep breaths. The season officially ended 6 days ago. In the two weeks we have focused on next year’s team, we have added three multi-year (potentially…) players who both raise our floor and our ceiling.
I don’t think we have come anywhere close to exhausting our NIL coffers. We will add more very high quality players to this team, and the guys who are sticking around are only going to get better.
It’s April 14th… we’ve only just entered thunder dome… We will have to wait and see who comes out the other side. One thing is for sure… we are far from done.

Absolutely I didn't see it. Really, the only people who should have seen it are those who saw him in practice. I suppose you can argue the Santa Clara coach was some wizard that turned him into a first round pick and likely a guy making one of the first two all rookie teams.

My point is that if you're Podz, and you have guys being offered guaranteed minutes then you aren't on a level playing field for playing time. So you bail.

We're not privy to any of these discussions, so it's merely speculation. But if Booth is being given some guarantee, it becomes easy to see why Hansberry wants to bolt.

Like the numbers being floated for NIL, none of us knows what's going on. But there are plenty of possible scenarios that give me pause in laying out reasons when the transfers happen.
Well I don't know what players coming in are being told or promised but if you're already on the team and they play your position it has to cause some concern. You are right on that. As far as playing time as regarding to what they see in practice. Brad often talks about what he sees in practice and how it relates to how they play in games. There have been a few times that a bench bench player has came in and had a good game, maybe their best one of the year and then doesn't get in for a few games. I think this happened to Podz. That makes me think that Brad was not liking what he was seeing in practice following those games or just didn't think the situation in the games weren't right for putting that player back in. Who knows?

Eh. I like the Illini's chances in a third matchup, since it's extremely difficult to beat a good team 3 times in a season.

Plus, Illinois really could have won that 2nd matchup. Were leading until very late and Purdue just hit big shot after big shot.

If they had played again I'm betting on Shannon, Domaks, and Hawkins. Kinda like how the Flyin Illini beat Michigan twice and then lost in the final four.
nice take...

Get him Fletched immediately and we're cooking with gas.
Really...he may Boswell Fletch!! Pretty stout guy...even as a frosh. Kid can do things he has not shown on the court to date due to having so much talent to feed. IMHO, he can be an elite shooters as his mechanics are excellent. Hopefully, Brad will use his talents at both ends and he will thrive back home.

I totally agree on PT guarantees. But that very year it was suggested that Clark got it.

Someone last week asked insiders to comment on such guarantees for top talent. None chimed in.

If some players get guarantees and others don't it may cause issues.
I think it's pretty obvious that some guys project as likely immediate rotation players or even starters. Others not so much. I think they should be honest with them.

I recall Lou Henson would tell top prospects something like he couldn't guarantee they'd play, they had to earn it, but he was pretty sure they were good enough.

Bruce Weber allegedly told D. Rose he would have to beat out CF? Maybe that's an urban legend?

Minnesota’s Parker Fox is returning to Minnesota for what will be his eighth (EIGHTH!!) year in college! Even Jess Settles and Jalen Coleman-Lands are like “dude… move on!”

2017-18 — Northern State (Redshirt)
2018-19 — Northern State (played in 33 games)
2019-20 — Northern State (played in 32 games)
2020-21 — Northern State (played in 21 games — OFFICIAL Covid Year)
2021-22 — Minnesota (Redshirt)
2022-23 — Minnesota (Redshirt)
2023-24 — Minnesota (played in 34 games)
2024-25 — Returning to Minnesota.

The difference between Fox and Marcus Domask is whether Marcus’ 10 games played in 20-21 counts as a full season. I’d love to see the NCAA grant him the same leeway in games played that they’ve granted Fox in years enrolled.

Does Kylan stick around in Champaign now and finish his classes remotely (allowing him to hang with the other visits), or does he go back to AZ to wrap up the semester?

It's been too long when are we getting our next commitment?? A program like this should not have to wait this long, it's already been like one whole hour smh.
Could not agree more. Only 3 commits in 6 days is being lazy. I expected 6 five starts by now in the fold!!! Poor recruiting. /s

But seriously, I have always wanted Kylan in SFC and am glad he is back home. As a Wildcat myself who is Illinois born and bred, he belongs at the U of Illinois where he will become the best he can be. Those California girls, Sabino Canyon, Mt. Lemon, riverbed boondockers, and orange blossoms are not conducive to EDG!!! Wow, did I love those days.:giggle:

Obviously everything is in flux, but how many starters for this upcoming season do we think are currently on the roster/committed as of this moment?

This is true. Then Reggie Rose slapped Bruce on the !!! and the whole crew walked out. Bruce yelled at Demetri McCamey, imploring him strongly to move. And now you know the rest of the story.
