The point I'm trying to refute is that TSJ was the equivalent of someone like Tre White or Desmond Claude in terms of hype and expectations, an under-the-radar mystery project type.
Not sure where you got that 😂 it definitely wasn’t from me. My comment was about Mayer being a big fish that wasn’t worth the hype. People think that, in hindsight, TJ was rated as so much more valuable than our other transfers. That wasn’t true. One high ranking hit (TJ), the other didn’t (MM). In the latter’s case, development from within (Coleman) proved more valuable than our highest rated transfer.

I know it's really early in the process and will reserve judgment until it all shakes out. Right now it seems like we need a couple guys that are just pure scorers. Domask getting a waiver would certainly help. Who else is going to carry the scoring load?

I get pringle is much more of a center/PNR guy, but 247 has pringle and humrichous both at 6'9. Were gonna get cooked again if our plan at C is a PNR undersized tweener
ESPN has Pringle at 6'10" 230. He ain't undersized, that's a big dude with a big dude's game.

Humrichous is a big combo forward that wants to shoot a bunch of 3's and doesn't rebound much, very different player.

My comment was about Mayer being a big fish that wasn’t worth the hype.
Mayer was really good, we would have been horrendous without him last year.

I place a lot of culture blame at his feet (I know some others disagree), and I don't know if he was the 10th best transfer in the country, but as a basketball player he was as advertised and essential for us.

I am so very confident when BU eventually leaves this program that we have so many adept, proficient candidates on this forum. Our future is so bright.

Are we about to get involved in many pages of favorite dips? Heavily involved?

Based on this post by @LvilleILL yesterday, my assumption would be that Nick Pringle is not the big name big he referred to. (Sorry if I'm wrong and he is). But I'm sure Brad has contingencies upon contingencies, and I wonder if Pringle would be a big that has a more modest price tag that we could bring in if we end up spending big on a wing and a combo guard instead. Seems like we have the money to spend big on 2 guys, and while maybe plan A is this big and wing @LvilleILL referred to, it makes sense that we'd be looking at other options as well - and maybe one of those options is 2 big time wings/guards and then a role player big.

Once every 10 years do you get 7'2" 260 AA vs 7'4" 280 AA

Agree on both counts. Pringle certainly doesn’t look undersized on tape…

Matt took some bad shots, but Matt was always Matt. There is a reason he was the 6th man at Baylor. Drew would bring him in to do his thing & see if it was a “Matt game”, if it wasn’t he’d watch a lot. We got some Matt games, we also got a few he should have watched. We didn’t have the depth to sit him or the leadership to reign him in.
He wasn’t the only guy hunting shots on that team. There were very few guys on that team that didn’t have similar, head-scratching moments. TJ and Coleman included.

There’s no way that that link has his correct stats right?

It says Pringle:
  • Shot 84.7 percent from the field throughout the season
He didn't shoot 84.7% when they played UConn. . . and didn't get a single rebound either.

I’d guess Pringle is not the primary target, but I doubt he is looking to leave a final four squad to ride the pine.

im sure booth and coleman could coexist similar to GQ and coleman. problem is neither of them want to play the 5, so youre right.
Because 1. you need more than five players (your starters) 2. Coleman coming back is far from a given. 3. They could both be on their court together. Most teams these days don't play class Centers at the 5. They play forwards that can pop out and shoot. (Edey and Clingan are the exception, not the norm).

Yeah I assume he would start. I meant role player in the same vein that Ty was last year, or Quincy. He'd be a 1 year rental to get Morez some experience off the bench before handing him the keys.

Are we really? Kind of a head scratcher if you ask me, based on his production and who we already have.

Brad's portal strategy is kind of starting to look like Boomhauers dating strategy that he tried to teach Bobby at the women's shoe store.....

That’s kind of the way I’d view him. Someone to push Rez, but not necessarily be blocking his way.

Interesting it came from Chester. I'm assuming that was a jab. If he's implying that Brad whats the big names this makes more bullish about the direction of the program.

Chet can recruit his "diamonds in the rough", team guys with very limited talent. Luckily we have a body of evidence of more than a decade about how that turns out.

These are the types of kids we landed for over a decade under Weber/Groce. The Simeon plan B kids. The Kipper Nicholas, The Finkes, Jalen Tate, Billy Coles, Tyler Griffey, Richard Semrau, and yes, Chester Frasier types. Chester could have been the hardest nosed SOB on the floor but that didn't do anything about the fact that he couldn't shoot threes and his defender would sag 7 feet from him.

With talent often comes ego and demanding parents. Somehow the "bullets we dodge" always seem to do okay at the other schools. It's like nobody told Kansas that these kids will destroy the chemistry.

Now on the flip side are kids like Caleb Love. Kids like these can be cancers and affect the entire team chemistry. Avoid them at all cost.

I have no problem with a kid looking for the biggest bag. Isn't that what we do in our professional lives? Some of these family may have never seen a coma in their bank accounts before. Give them a break.

I wouldn't really read all that much into it, and Chester brought in some really good players while winning a Big Ten regular season and tournament title here.

I hope that a dividend of our durable success will be a greater ability to be magnanimous about the players and coaches that contribute along the way.

I am happy to see success in the future for both us and Chet.
