respect my decisionā„¢
Humrichous isnā€™t a booty ball player at all. He doesnā€™t post, and if he gets switched onto a little guard heā€™ll just shoot right over him.

There is a certain herky-jerkiness they share, itā€™s not purely skin tone that leads to the comparison, but the way they play and their strengths on the floor are totally different.

we must have watched different clips. I see him as a Knecht/Domask hybrid. I think he can play booty ball all day long

I'm sharpie-ing in Onyenso due to the glaring 5 hole in the roster AND the OA hire.

I'm hum brick and mortaring in Ben.

My only question is who the stud 2G with size will be.

Others have responded but he avg 2.8 blocks in 18.7min Per game! He started the last 14 games as he emerged from the 3 Cs they used- but most importantly it would mean we donā€™t have to watch Booth and Rez try to guard Ballo and the other Cs in the Big Ten who ate us alive last year

Getting a good defensive and rebounding C is a very big addition indeed

Yeah a rim protecting big who can grab boards surrounded by playmakers and shooters is always going to be the way to go for optimal team construction. Iā€™d rather that than building around a Kofi or Edey type guy who is an offensively focused big (even though both of them were fantastic college players).

Not to mention, just think of what OA could do to develop him. We'd be lucky to have him more than one season.

Some of these takes are laughable. I think many of you have forgot how many easy layups and dunks we gave up at the rim last year.
You can watch 30 seconds of Onyenso and clearly see why he would be a huge get. Guys like that a very few and far between. Watch his timing, fluidity/athleticism, and natural helpside feel for the game. Not to mention "elite" lob threat. We have not had a center like him ever. No Egwu isnt close.

you have to remember a 7'0" guy that can't shoot changes your offense too, not just your defense. So you can't play 5 out with that guy, because no one will leave the paint to guard him.

I hate the new landscape in college basketball, and maybe it's not just basketball. I grew up watching players grow into roles on a team. I got to watch as new players blended in to the rotation of players that we already knew. Now, they just go get whatever type player you need, and when the season is over you find someone to take their place. No loyalty in either direction. The mid majors are serving as a feeder program to the power five conferences. Why root for or get excited for high school signing classes? They are just gong to get recruited over and pushed out in a year or two.

Have a lot of competing thoughts at the moment. On one hand, Underwood has more than earned the benefit of the doubt, Antigua is excellent, etc. etc. But on the other hand, hard to ignore the fact that the transfer haul so far has been one solid PG and a handful of "meh." Of course, the flipside is that the staff has historically developed talent well, and while Booth, White, and Davis don't particularly excite me it's fair to say they could be much better than anything they've shown so far.

The search for a high-level shooting guard has been a failure. Still plenty of time, but good options drop off every day and Illinois isn't linked to any as far as we know. The search for a high-level wing has been a flop to date--not necessarily anyone's fault but reality is reality. The current hope seems to be Jones, a guy who isn't in the portal and who if he *were* to enter, would be the main focus of every single deep pocket out there. Look how quickly Illinois was out on Brea in a similar situation. Not encouraging.

So much left to play out, but it's becoming increasingly likely that for all of Illinois' resources, next year's team could end up being a bubble group. And it's just as (perhaps more) likely that this post will look very goofy and premature. Would love that, but hard not to notice other teams stacking real talent while Illinois stacks... not quite projects, but not proven talent either--with the exception of Boswell.

Same thing people said about domask. Not saying he is domask, but he is very skilled offensively. Just because a guy isn't athletic, doesn't mean he can't be a stud.
He could be a good player but heā€™s not a ā€œvery big pieceā€ period. I think you missed the point of my post.
